Today is officially International Thank A Greenkeeper Day, and we couldn't let it pass without giving a massive shout-out to the unsung heroes of Consett & District Golf Club!

While most of us are still fast asleep, our greenkeeping team is already out on the course—mowing, rolling, raking, and prepping the pristine playing surfaces we get to enjoy every single week.

This summer has been incredibly busy, with packed tee sheets, massive events, and Consett's unpredictable weather throwing everything at them. Despite all of that, they have kept the course looking absolutely spectacular and helped us secure that Gold Standard condition we are all so proud of.

Next time you see the team out on the mowers, make sure to give them a wave and a quick thank you! 👏⛳️

⚠️ Attention- Maintenance Week ⚠️

Could I please remind members that this week Mon to Fri is our main annual scheduled Maintenance programme.
Its an intensive busy week, couldn I ask members if you see us working on the green, pick up and go to the next hole. We will try to keep disruption to a minimum, but please appreciate we need to crack on and there will be some disruption

The klaxon has sounded and our sh***un start is officially underway for the Northern Cancer Voices Charity Golf Day here at Consett!

The course is packed, the tees are full, and we have a fantastic field of golfers out there ready to tear up the fairways for an absolutely brilliant cause.

A massive thank you to everyone who has organized, sponsored, and entered a team today. Now, let’s get some great scores in the clubhouse and, more importantly, let's raise a massive amount of money for Northern Cancer Voices! 💙💰

𝗝𝗢𝗛𝗡 𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗗𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗨𝗣 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗!
We are unbelievably proud to announce that our very own John Kennedy has officially been selected to represent the England Golf Senior Men’s squad! 🏆

John will be pulling on the England shirt for two huge upcoming events:
- The European Senior Men’s Team Championship at Cabot Bordeaux, France (1st - 5th Sept)
- The Home Internationals at Royal St David’s, Wales (15th - 17th Sept)

John’s selection comes on the back of an absolutely world-class run of form over the last couple of years, with a golfing resume that most of us can only dream of:
🏌️‍♂️ Played in the 2026 U.S. Senior Open
🥇 Won the 2025 R&A Senior Men’s Amateur Championship (and finished T-6th in 2026!)
🥇 Won the 2025 Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship
🥇 Won the 2025 Durham County Championship

We have a huge double-header this weekend at Consett! Whether you are bringing a guest or supporting the future of the club, here is everything you need to know before you tee off:

𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗬: 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Format: Pairs Texas Scramble
Entry: £10 per player (£20 per team)
⚠️ ACTION REQUIRED: If you are playing, you must reply to your member email in advance with your guest's full name and CDH number. This is essential for the competition setup and a smooth registration on the morning!

𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬: 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗺 𝗗𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗻
Format: Stableford (Please note: We have officially switched this from Strokeplay to encourage maximum participation!)
Tees: Your choice of Yellow or White tees
Entry: £5 total (£3 entry, £1 sweep, £1 two's)
The Cause: Every single penny of the entry fees goes directly into the Juniors Fund! We are making a massive push to support grassroots growth at the club, so your participation directly funds the future of Consett golf.

⛳ YOUR COUNTY CARD IS GOING DIGITAL

Every playing member of a Durham club gets a County Card — free, as part of the affiliation fee you already pay. It gets you a discounted green fee at over 1,300 clubs across the country.

From now on, the card lives in the Golf Genius app. Physical cards are still available from your Club Secretary while stocks last, but they are not being reprinted. Once they're gone, the app is the only way to get one.

Getting the digital card takes two minutes:
1️⃣ Register on the DCGU Golf Genius portal with your WHS/CDH number and surname
2️⃣ Download the free Golf Genius app and sign in
3️⃣ Menu → County Card → add to cart → check out (£0, no payment details needed)
4️⃣ Your card appears in the app — show it on your phone when you book or arrive

43 Durham clubs take part, and your card is valid until your next subscription renewal. Pay your subs, refresh the app, and the expiry updates itself.

Green fees are set by each club — usually the members' guest rate — so always ring ahead to check rates and availability.

Switch now and you'll never lose it in a jacket pocket again. 📱
