End of an era, and the start of a new one.
Today marks the final day in the big old factory, and so seemed a good time to update everybody on what we're up to at Bird.
As you know the prevailing winds have been against the bike industry for a number of years now and it's time to change our business model.
This week we move into a smaller more retail focused unit which we plan to make our base of operations for some time. Rather than focusing on business on solely building our own bikes we're diversifying into not only building our own bikes but also selling other brands.
Partnering with Forestal and Forbidden bikes we're entering a new phase of our business where our customisation model is going to expand to other brands and other opportunities. Bringing our unique expertise and technology to an expanding market of Avinox powered e-bikes among other things.
On top of that we've also started importing other products such as Maxima and our own StålStad branded products via our sister company Steel Town Components. StålStad's expanding line up comprises wheels, rims, UDH, bottom brackets, dropper posts, saddles, bars and stems which will be available B2B and via the Bird store as they drop in 2026.
The Aerelon will return in V2 guise with new frames expected to arrive for testing and QC in the coming weeks ahead of a summer launch. We're partnering with one of the most respected names in road and gravel bike frames to co-develop this second generation of frame, having dropped the V1 project due to a difference in how we wanted to operate Vs the factory.
Aeris AM, Zero 29 and Forges will all get minor updates in 2026 ahead of the 2027 season, but no changes for this year.
The Aether 9C is no more save some final clear out bargains, and the Aether range is moving to a youth/teen model with sizes equivalent to XS and S and M in the new line up, catering for riders up to around 5' 8 at the top end. Prices starting from just £1499 for a really solidly specced bike for those and rippers.
Our store in Consett will be open during the week for service and the parts counter, the upstairs showroom will be open just Friday & Saturday for customers, the rest of the time it will be used for dealer training & media work.
Well be bringing back our demo fleet starting later this month with hardtails, Aeris AMs and Forbidden Druid Es available. Other bikes to be added as stock allows.
We're closed now for 2 weeks while we settle in but if you've got questions hit us up below and we'll do our best to answer them!
