Urchinwood Manor Riding and Event Centre Riding School, Stables, livery and Competition centre Urchinwood is a 17th Century Manor house, surrounded by 100 acres of pasture.

Sally & Peter Hall started Urchinwood Manor Equestrian Centre in 1979. The excellent facilities and staff provide tuition for riders from beginner to advanced in a safe fun environment. Private & Group lessons are available for all, from beginner to advanced level in Dressage, Show Jumping, Cross Country, Side Saddle, and Stable Management. We are offering group lessons for those children that would like to learn to ride and are home schooled. There will be two slots during the week Tuesdays 13:30 (with Ida) and Thursdays 11:30 (with Rachael Chatfield).

Not able or wanting to ride but wanting some quality time with our equine friends. Come and get a horse fix with our sensory sessions find out what makes the ponies happy, and give them a cuddle at the same time.
The new sessions will be:
Tuesdays 12:30 with Tammy
Thursday 15:30 with Isabella

To book in for these days go to “Events” on our EC Pro portal, and enter the class that related to the time slot you require. We will be allowing 2 horses per time slot (if you wish to come with more than 2 friends let us know and we can accommodate accordingly)

In response to last weeks trees and shrubs.
A: Laburnum, this is poisonous to horses. Normally this is an ornamental tree, not many grow wild.

B: Oak, many horses graze in fields containing Oaks with no problems. The trees levels of toxicity appear to vary as toxins vary in the tree throughout the year. The biggest problem occurs in Autum with horses eating large amounts of acorns.

C: Rhododendron, A poisonous plant, common ornamental plant, that has spread in to the wild in some areas.

D: Hawthorn, Not poisonous (but prickly)

E: Sycamore, This is poisonous, especially seed and leaves on ground in Autum and the seedling in spring. This causes Atypical Myopathy, that is frequently fatal. There is still research going on into why some horses are affected more than others.

F: Yew: Poisonous, More likely to be found as hedges, and is still poisonous when dry (hedge clippings).
