Thought you may like to see some more of the machinery used to make the Haylage. This is a tedder (probably has other names too), after the grass is mown this spreads it out to allow it to wilt evenly, you can also use it to turn the crop over to allow sun to get to all of it to help the evenness of the moisture content. (I wasn’t quick enough to get a photo of it working)

Last Monday we showed you some of the contents of our feed room, they were as follows:
A. Generic mix
B. Sugar beat Nuts
C. Chaff
D. Alph Alpha
E. Stud Mix
F. Ground coconut husk (not heard of this one before)
The label that state what the ingredients are is either printed on the bag or on a label stitched into an opening. When you have a spare time it’s worth searching on the internet to see what each element should help with, failing that talk to the supplier.

Thought you may like to see what it looks like in a modern tractor cab, this one is fitted with gps and auto steer along with front and rear three-point linkage with a PTO front and rear so it can have an implement front and rear in this case mowers.

Last week we asked you about the similarities between a human and horse, and should you wish to look back at the post the answers are as follows:
4 Elbow
5 Wrist
2 Knee
9 Ankle
And we have nothing against the number eight just wondered if anyone was taking any notice.
Hopefully the picture may help you work out where each corresponds.

The picture also shows how a horse’s hoof is basically the tip of your middle finger, and the hoof itself is the equivalent of your finger nail.

So, this week’s question what are the splint bones equivalent to in a human and where and between joints are they (feel free to use the numbers of last Saturdays picture)?

It looks like we have a window to cut some haylage, we use contractors for the bulk of this as machinery costs make it impractical on our scale. Depending on the type of ground this out fit can average 10 acres an hour (all affected by field size, shape and surface)

A bit of a slow news day today, waiting for the weather to improve before we mow the next parcel of silage land, so I thought a horse wearing a hat may be appropriate. Is it just me or dose it remind you of an old fashioned railway porter?

Since last week our sheep have been supporting new haircuts. The contractors came in and did all 120 in about 2 hours, that is about 60 an hour, there were 3 shearers and one fleece roller. How much do you think we get of one of our fleeces.
