I am geeky when it comes to 'Works' football teams ..

They are what influenced and inspired how we set up our North Wales Dragons Community Football Teams particularly based on the inter-departmental football competitions created back in the 1960's by Hotpoint Appliances at their former Llandudno Junction, North Wales factory ..

So the geekyness was taken to the max when I came across this Birmingham County FA Birmingham County Football Association handbook 1963/1964 Season ..

There are some absolute gems of the past in there, from Daimler Inter-Departmental Competition, to Coventry Radiator Inter-Departmental Competition, to ICI Midland Inter-Works Competition ..

Imagine the community impact those events had alone? Just by kicking a football, recreationally.

The book is packed with works team information and gives a wonderful snapshot as to how not just grassroots, but roots football played a part in communities.

TWO WEEKS TODAY!

Next up for our men's North Wales Dragons Community Football Team will be when we take on the Clŵb Pêl-Droed Trawsblaniad Cymru Welsh Transplant Football Team.

It will be our pleasure and honour to play them, as the squad is made up of entirely of transplant recipients, including players who have received kidneys, hearts, lungs and bone marrow.

We host the transplant team before they head to this year’s Transplant World Cup in Germany.

The tournament will take place in Frankfurt from September 13 to September 19, with Wales competing against some of the world’s leading transplant football nations.

Up to 20 nations are expected to compete, including England, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Germany and Chile.

Here we are! Day 7 and the FINAL day (For now) of our North Wales Dragons Community Football Team sustainable development goal No:6, 'Clean Water & Sanitation' awareness campaign.

This time last week we were preparing for our awareness launch by way of a women's recreational football tournament in Chester.

Facilitated by Practera Practera last month, we simultaneously worked with students from University of Nottingham University of Nottingham and King's College London King's College London as we challenged UoN to come up with a project that would align with Bridges Sustainability Science Coalition UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition and Sports for Nature which would also has a positive effect on our efforts with our membership of the United Nations 'Football for the Goals' Initiative, and our work with the FA Wales Football Association of Wales Sustainability Strategy 2030 and The Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales

As the project developed, we asked KCL to look at a digital strategy, so that the project could be optimised to the maximum.
So they came up with options for posting on social media, this including various other elements of sustainability.

This together with our awesome new branding kit put together by our own North Wales Dragons Caitlin Faye & Kiara Howard

This is now the 2nd awareness campaign we have run, to coincide with the Dragons participation in matches or tournaments.

Thanks so much to both sets of awesome students for coming up with a plan.

As the World Cup is upon us ..

North Wales Dragons are having our own like a mini-World Cup type tournament ⚽ ..

It's the Inter Dragons tournament, 'El Epico' 🏆 ..

We will have one epic group, made up of mixed gender players, taken from our men's and women's groups, and split into four Dragons teams:

Team Blue 🔵 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐲
Team Green 🟢🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐲
Team Yellow 🟡 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐲
Team Orange 🟠🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐲

Why is it epic? Well, depends which player gets drawn into which group, it maybe that husband will play against wife? Wife v wife? Partner against partner? Mother against daughter? Father versus son possibly ..

Maybe it will be Sister v brother? Sister v sister? Brother v brother? Best friend against best friend? Neighbour versus neighbour? Or any other combination I will have probably missed! ..

Another reason the tournament will be epic is that we are coming together to raise money for our own Rob O'Leary and his family, who've had a stroke of bad luck recently ..

The tournament will be played at Llandrillo College, Rhos-on-Sea, on the evening of Thursday 23rd July 26, kicking off at 7.30pm ..
Everyone is welcome to come along and watch!

We will share the significant head to heads and who is up against who, once the draw is made ..

Last night I stayed up to watched the first half of the England v Costa Rica match, don't know if anyone else watched it and noticed the pitchside picnic type tables? How very USA! 😁

This got me thinking to sixteen years ago, when I was in the United States and I was fortunate to go and watch LA Galaxy v Chicago Fire
While I was there, I took this photo of this young man going around the crowd selling candy floss.

Obviously I wondered how this would go down if he was to stroll amongst the seats in the old Gwladys Street, The Kop, The Stretford End or Gallowgate End. 😯

What do you think? Candy floss for next season or happy enough with pie, peas and gravy? Or that sausage roll you buy at half time on a Wednesday that is so hot, you can't eat it until Saturday? 😊

So as a group, our North Wales Dragons Community Football Teams have got together and arranged a football tournament amongst ourselves, with the kind support of COAST cafe bar & gift shop Rhos-on-Sea ..

Quite exciting, as it will be mixed gender teams, and something we have never done before ..

All recreational, all fun, so if you're close by and stuck for something to do, why not pop along and cheer the teams on, they would love any support ..

Speaking of which, if anyone would be kind enough to donate to Robs page, we would be most grateful, but not as grateful as Rob and his family would be. ☺️
