Colne finished their season with a share of the spoils as they twice came from behind to earn a much-needed point.

Colne started slowly and found themselves a goal down after 15 minutes following a well-worked Sutton move. That setback appeared to wake the visitors up, and they dominated the remainder of the half, drawing level midway through when Lee Hartley scrambled the ball over the line after neat play from Charlie Sharples.

Colne could have gone in ahead at the break, but a mixture of missed half-chances and fine goalkeeping kept the score at 1โ€“1.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Colne again starting slowly despite looking the more likely side to score next. Sutton gradually grew into the game, and a defensive mix-up allowed their striker a clear run at goal to make it 2โ€“1 on the hour. A third soon after appeared to put the points beyond Colne.

However, a fine comeback in the final ten minutes changed the game. First, Olly Whiteoak fired home, before Man of the Match Jamie Holmes nodded in Shayne Howardโ€™s long throw to make it 3โ€“3.

The final five minutes were end to end, with both sides creating glorious chances to sn**ch all three points, but a draw was a fair result.

As the curtain comes down on another season โ€“ one which has, in large parts, been disappointing โ€“ there is plenty of excitement for what lies ahead. The final two games gave Colne the opportunity to field no fewer than eight teenagers, as they freshened up their personnel and showed what a bright future the club has.

Colne United reignited their fight against relegation with an impressive 3โ€“1 victory away at Clayton, following a long trip to Bradford that proved well worth it.

After a recent dip in form, Colne made several changes both in personnel and shape โ€“ and the impact was immediate. From the outset, the visitors dominated proceedings, playing some excellent football despite the difficult pitch and against a physical Clayton side. While the hosts attempted to use their physicality to disrupt the game, Colneโ€™s quality on the ball consistently shone through.

Despite their control, Colne went into the break just 1โ€“0 ahead, a scoreline that barely reflected their superiority. The breakthrough came after a superb piece of play from Harry Swarbrick, who slipped in Jamie Holmes. Holmes showed great composure to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. Colne could easily have extended their lead further before half-time, but the Clayton keeper produced a series of strong saves to keep his side in the contest.

Clayton altered their shape at the interval in an attempt to stem the flow, but Colne remained firmly in control. On the hour mark, Olly Whiteoak, who was outstanding throughout, doubled the advantage with an excellent solo effort, weaving his way through the defence before finishing confidently.

Colne effectively sealed the result soon after when Swarbrick flicked a header home from an Ashley Southworth free-kick, making it 3โ€“0 and ending any realistic hopes of a Clayton comeback.

To their credit, the home side continued to battle and were rewarded with a stunning consolation goal โ€“ one that will be talked about for a long time. A Clayton centre-half unleashed an audacious strike from inside his own half, finding the top corner in spectacular fashion.

The match finished 3โ€“1, a crucial victory for Colne as they continue their push to avoid relegation. A big challenge awaits on Thursday, as they travel away to Sutton, but this result provides real momentum and belief.

Man of the Match: Jamie Holmes

Colne United returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Baildon Trinity Athletic FC, securing a much-needed three points after three successive defeats.

It was an even first half in terms of chances, but Colne went into the break two goals to the good thanks to two excellent strikes from Carney and skipper Danny Hammerton. Hammertonโ€™s effort was the pick of the bunch, an absolute thunderbolt from 25 yards that flew into the top corner. Pat Ennis then had a golden opportunity to make it three, but was denied in a one-on-one by the leagueโ€™s top keeper.

Baildon always looked dangerous, but Colne controlled much of the possession in the opening half. The second period was a very different story, with Colne forced onto the back foot as the midfield dropped deeper and possession became increasingly sloppy.

Defensively, though, Colne were superb. Man of the match Blake Bartram was outstanding at the heart of the defence as the home side stood firm under sustained pressure. Baildon did pull a goal back with 20 minutes remaining to halve the deficit, but Colne held on resolutely to see out the win.

The result lifts Colne up to 4th in the league, a fantastic achievement for a squad in which, for many players, this is only their second season in adult football.

Carleton First Team 1โ€“0 Colne United Reserves

Colne United Reserves were left frustrated after a narrow 1โ€“0 defeat away at Carleton in challenging conditions.

There was little to separate the two sides throughout the contest. Colne controlled large spells of the game but struggled to create clear-cut chances to truly test the Carleton goalkeeper. The decisive moment came midway through the first half, when the hosts capitalised on a well-worked move, with Colne unable to clear a low cross into the box.

It was a welcome return between the sticks for Matt Taylor, who made a number of good, solid saves to keep Colne in the contest and was as chirpy as ever both on and off the field.

Facing a well-organised and experienced Carleton side โ€” who had dropped points at home only once this season โ€” Colne dug deep and worked tirelessly to get back into the game. Despite plenty of effort and determination, the equaliser proved elusive as the home side held firm.

Captain Danny Hammerton was named Man of the Match for a commanding display in the heart of midfield, while Blake Bartram produced an outstanding performance at the back.

A tough result to take, but plenty of positives from a battling team performance

Colne United Reserves 4โ€“3 FC Keighley

Colne United Reserves produced a stunning late comeback to complete the double over promotion-chasing FC Keighley, showing grit, belief and real attacking quality in a thrilling 4โ€“3 victory.

It took a sensational late show from Colneโ€™s youngsters to turn the game on its head. Earlier in the season this would almost certainly have ended in defeat, but this time Colne showed fantastic character, recovering from 3โ€“1 down with just 15 minutes remaining to sn**ch all three points.

The tone was set early when Pat Ennis, operating in an unconventional false-nine role, cancelled out Keighleyโ€™s early opener with a well-taken equaliser. Despite several enforced changes due to unavailability, Colne looked sharp and competitive, going into the break level at 1โ€“1.

The second half saw Colne dominate possession and territory, but a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal proved costly. Two goals against the run of play left the hosts staring at a 3โ€“1 deficit and an uphill battle.

Manager Swarbrick rang the changes, and the final 15 minutes belonged entirely to Colne. Harley Treitl, the smallest man on the pitch, sparked the revival with a brave header to make it 3โ€“2 before turning provider moments later for Shayne Howard to smash home the equaliser.

Howardโ€™s influence didnโ€™t stop there., he was moved from centre-half to striker โ€” and showed exactly why clubs from higher leagues are taking notice. His second goal, a superb late winner, capped a masterclass performance and earned him a deserved Man of the Match award.

Colne refused to settle for a draw, and their relentless pressure finally paid off, with Howardโ€™s winner sending the home crowd wild and sealing a memorable victory over their Yorkshire rivals.

A superb all-round performance, full of resilience, belief and attacking intent โ€” and a reminder of just how far this young Colne side has come.

Match Report: Colne United 4โ€“1 Settle United

Colne United produced a superb comeback performance to secure a deserved 4โ€“1 victory over Settle United, despite a nightmare start that saw the hosts fall behind after just two minutes following a defensive mix-up.

Colne struggled to get going in the opening stages and were fortunate not to concede further as Settle dominated the first 20 minutes. Two early substitutions injected much-needed energy and urgency into the home side, and that spark soon translated into goals.

On the half-hour mark, Tyler Carroll brought Colne level, after fine work by Shayne Howard and Harley Treitl and from that moment the momentum completely shifted. Colne moved through the gears and Settle had no answer. Right on the stroke of half-time, Olly Whiteoak produced a moment of brilliance, smashing a superb 25-yard strike into the top corner to send Colne into the break with a 2โ€“1 lead.

The second half was one-way traffic. Colne emerged a different side and created chance after chance, blowing their opponents away with relentless attacking pressure. Tyler Carroll and Brandon Monk both came agonisingly close, each striking the woodwork, before Joel Parkinson slammed home from close range after excellent work from Charlie Sharples.

Colne continued to press, and the victory was sealed in style around 20 minutes from time with a goal-of-the-season contender. Harry Swarbrick smashing a stunning half-volley into the top corner to make it 4โ€“1.

A dominant second-half display ensured Colne fully deserved the win โ€” and on another day, the scoreline could have been even more convincing.

Colne United Reserves 1โ€“2 Worth Valley

A cracking game at Colne, with the hosts desperately unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

Colne dominated large spells of possession in the first half but couldnโ€™t break down a stubborn and well-organised Worth Valley side. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead on 30 minutes when their striker wriggled free to head past the keeper. Despite having all the ball, Colne lacked the clinical edge to respond before the interval.

The second half was almost entirely played in the Worth Valley half, though clear-cut chances were at a premium. However, it was the visitors who doubled their lead, poor marking from a corner allowing another completely free header.

A switch to two up front finally paid dividends ten minutes from time when Olly Whiteoak unleashed an outrageous 30-yard screamer that sent the keeper the wrong way. Colne then laid siege to the Worth Valley goal and, in the dying seconds, appeared to have won a stonewall penalty when Blake Bartram was wiped out by the keeper.

The referee, however, saw absolutely nothing wrong with it and unfortunately, the VAR room at Stockley Park was unavailableโ€ฆ

Despite the defeat, it was a strong performance from Colne and a million times better than the week before, against a side who will rightly fancy their chances of promotion. Opposition MOM Harry Swarbrick

Barnoldswick Town EL 5โ€“1 Colne United Reserves

Colne United Reserves bowed out of the Craven Cup at the quarter-final stage following a lacklustre display that fell well short of the standards they have set in recent months and despite missing several key players they couldnโ€™t grumble with the final outcome.

Barnoldswick Town started the brighter of the two sides and should have taken the lead inside the opening ten minutes, only for an outstanding save from Rob Ashworth to deny the home striker. That early warning proved short-lived, however, as Barlick soon established a two-goal advantage, with Colne struggling to gain any real control in midfield.

Despite being second best for large spells of the first half, Colne were handed a lifeline just before the interval when Charlie Sharples struck against the run of play to reduce the deficit. They nearly went into the break with further momentum as Pat Ennis tested the Barnoldswick goalkeeper, stinging his palms moments before the refereeโ€™s whistle.

The visitors began the second half with renewed purpose and, for the opening ten minutes, looked the more likely side to score. However, a swift breakaway goal from Barnoldswick effectively killed the contest, draining the belief from Colne and causing the game to peter out. Two very late goals added gloss to the scoreline, but there was no disputing that the better side progressed.

It was Colneโ€™s poorest performance since Dave Swarbrick took the reins, and they will hope it proves to be a one-off as attention now turns back to league action this weekend against Worth Valley.
