Yesterday we returned to action against Craven Heifer in our 4th league game in the Burnley & District Sunday league. With both sides in need of a win we need we had our work cut out for us.

We took the lead in the first 10 minutes when Johnny Wormwell perfectly dinked the keeper to open the scoring for us. A very long awaited goal for JW. Shortly after that Stephen Trickett extended our lead with a neat finish to take us into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Not long after the restart Craven pulled one back with a finish which was put right in the top corner. However just minutes after that James Astin headed in from close range to make it 3- 1. The next goal coming from us again with a fantastically worked goal, every single Colne player having a touch of the ball before Callum Wetherall drilled a pin point ball to Stephen Trickett who dispatched into the bottom corner. Craven pulled another back with a bullet header from a corner to make it 4-2.

But the game was put to bed when super sub Jamie Randall was introduced into the game and grabbed himself 2 goals with not long to play and the game finished 6-2.

Man of the Match yesterday went to Stephen Trickett for his cultured performance up top and grabbing himself 2 goals.

We would like to wish Zak Bailey the speediest of recoveries as he was withdrawn from the game midway through the second half with a serious Ankle injury. Get well soon Zak.

Big thanks to Mellows at Barrowford for the food and drinks after the game.

This weekend we face Globe FC at Mount Carmel with a 2pm KO.

On Sunday morning we returned to league action against 100FC in the Burnley & District League.

All in all there’s not much I can say about the game itself as it was probably the most frustrating game of football we’ve had since we’ve started as a club. Lots of missed opportunities coming from our attack which led to us finishing the game with a 0-0 draw.

One positive from the game we can take is how well we defended with a very makeshift defence. The back 4 were incredible throughout the game and its disappointing we didn’t come away with 3 points.

Man of the Match this week went to Stephen Trickett. An absolutely phenomenal performance from the makeshift Centre Back who was first to the ball on every single occasion, proves that man can play anywhere on the pitch.

Before the game we paid our respects with a minutes applause to former Pendle Blues player Liam Canning who unfortunately passed away last week which has shocked our local community. A fantastic person who was loved by many.
We met at Mellows with Pendle Blues to raise a glass in his memory. We send our sincere condolences to all of Liams family and friends in this very difficult time.

This weekend we welcome Craven Heifer at 14:00 at Marsden Heights where we look to return to winning ways.

For the 2024/25 season Colne Athletic FC are please to confirm we will be joining the Burnley & District Sunday Football League.

We would like to send extend a massive thank you to the Pendle Charity Sunday League for everything during our first season as a club. Unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow for us to continue with the league due to the lack of teams but we are all optimistic to find a solution following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

For now, we look forward to the new season and the brand new challenge that awaits.

On Friday night we had our final game of the 23/24 campaign and the occasion couldn’t of been bigger. The final of the Peter Shaw trophy against Pendle Blues. With both teams being fresh and having full squads out it was always bound to be a fantastic showing of football.

We made a perfect start to the game, when Michael Hodson snatched onto a loose ball and squared it to last weeks MOTM Stephen Trickett who tapped in with ease on the 8 minute mark. Not long after that we picked up a corner and some incredibly smart thinking from Aidan Parker as he burst forward from the halfway line picking up the ball outside of the box and fizzing it into Callum Wetherall who dispatched the ball into the bottom corner, an fantastically worked goal from the boys. But the celebrations were very short lived as Reece Miller picked out Toby Sudderick at the back post who nodded home to bring the game to 2-1 at the interval.

With a shaky first 10 minutes into the second half we knew we had to get the next goal to give us some breathing room. Enter Jimmy Astin, was brought on in the 55th minute and within a few minutes he got his first of the night with a neat finish in the bottom corner to put us 3-1 up. But the scoring wasn’t finished there, James Astin with some unbelievable footwork dancing around the blues CB’s and again with a finessed finish into the bottom corner to make it two for the night for himself and to put us 4-1 up. Not long after that another goal came courtesy of Isaac Turner who smashed home from short range. The last goal came from no other than Jimmy Astin who completed a 35 minute hatrick with just a few minutes remaining. A superb performance from the super sub.

The score finished 6-1 to us on the night which saw us bring home the Peter Shaw trophy. A dominant display from the boys there wasn’t one minute where we didn’t really look out of our depth.2 trophies in 7 days, a perfect way to finish the season. Man of the match could have gone to anyone on the pitch on the pitch on the night but James Astin was selected as the man of the match and fully deserved.

With the season being done I would like to round up with a few thank you’s to everybody who has supported us in our debut season lifting 2 trophies.

Our first thanks goes to Chris and Mark of Mellows at Barrowford, the amount of support they have give us, sponsoring our training tops, providing us with food and refreshments after every single game we’ve had this season. Coming to support us on game days and letting us host club events free of charge in their establishment, a massive massive thank you goes out to you both.

We would also like to thank VS Group for the sponsorship of our home kit for the season.

Our last thanks goes to ABSvisionphotography. Tony did a superb job for us on both cup finals photographing the games and did it off his own back, a fantastic touch and a top bloke.

For now we look towards our presentation night and our end of season do, but other than that we will be looking for friendlies with teams from the middle of July. If you would like to organise a game please send the page a message and we’ll get back to you!
