This is your friendly (but increasingly less friendly) reminder to get yourselves booked on for Thursday. 😏

While we love seeing you every week, we can’t spend our days chasing people for bookings like lost toddlers in a supermarket.

If you’re coming, book on.
If you’re thinking about coming, book on.
If you’re waiting for a sign… this is it. 📢

The team needs numbers, the session needs organising, and contrary to popular belief, we don’t possess magical mind-reading powers.

So do the decent thing, make life easier for everyone, and get your booking sorted NOW.

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

Just because the admin is away doesn’t mean you lot can get away with leaving your bookings until the last minute… 👀

Our fabulous team still needs to know who’s joining us for Thursday’s open water swim, so do everyone a favour and get those bookings in early. No carrier pigeons, no “I thought I’d done it”, and definitely no last-minute panic messages! 😏

Make life easy for the team, secure your spot, and help us keep things running smoothly while the usual bod is prancing about with princesses, baguettes and lots of stinky cheese 🧀 🇫🇷

And while we’re talking important business… don’t forget the pies. 🥧 Because swimming is great, but swimming followed by pie is elite.

This week, Maddie Holmes has officially been granted an Open Water pass… and we’ll let her off! 😉

Instead of joining us, she’ll be taking part in a charity bike ride as part of a baton relay team. 🚴‍♀️💨

A gentle but firm reminder from the Pendle Triathlon Club team:

We are all volunteers who give our time alongside full-time jobs, family commitments, and other responsibilities. We work hard to make open water run smoothly, make sure it is safe and maximise the booking window as best we can to accommodate everyone where possible
We are trying our best 💚🧡

While we completely understand that it can be really disappointing and frustrating to miss the booking window and not be able to book a session, we very much do not like saying no!

We do ask that communication remains respectful. Rude messages or negative comments towards volunteers are neither fair nor helpful.

We would like to thank those who have shown patience, understanding, and support. Your kindness and appreciation mean a great deal to us and make all the hard work worthwhile.

🏊‍♂️ Nothing beats a cooling dip on a hot day, but swimming in rivers comes with risks. If you're taking the plunge this week, follow these simple steps to help you stay safe.

Before you get in, check:

🌊 Flow – even gentle-looking rivers can have strong currents, so test it with a leaf
📏 Depth – what looks shallow can drop off suddenly
🌡️ Temperature – cold water shock is possible, even on warm days
💩 Water quality – use our sewage map for recent spills and watch for blue-green algae

Stay safe while swimming:

🚫 Don’t dive – rocks and debris can shift beneath the surface
🚤 Keep an eye out for boats – stay visible and aware
🍹 Stay sober – alcohol and drugs affect judgement and swimming ability
🚪 Plan your exit – make sure there’s an easy way out
🏊‍♂️ Don’t swim alone – go with a friend, or let someone know your plans

Our rivers are great places to cool off and enjoy nature, just take a moment to stay safe around the water.
