It’s been a rough month. The weekend the horses were meant to start coming in didn’t go quite as planned! They should all have been coming in on the Sunday night, but I finished work on the Saturday morning and got down the yard to find Paco laid out, very poorly indeed. I broke his head collar trying to get him up. Obviously called vet and then called for help to get him up and to stables. He had picked up a bacterial infection from somewhere and although I had some lab tests done, at £105 a test, I couldn’t afford to just keep testing so he had a 15 day course of antibiotics and anti inflammatories, and a ‘slop’ diet. His weight dropped off him but infection seems to have cleared and have finally got the others in as well (kept them away in case was contagious). He’s on the mend but it’s gonna take a while before he gets back up to weight.
The current storm has sent a tree at top of drive over, blocking top of drive, and the green shed that Paco kindly sat on at old place, is no longer where it should be, though the base has remained in situ 😝.

Lovely hack down to the bridle paths this morning, Paco gave me a lovely ride with some nice little canters which is surprising seeing as he was half asleep by the time I’d tacked up 😂
Then I actually cleaned my car 😲😝

Horses have helped humans progress, they’re now our friends, colleagues, companions, family. We owe it to them to help protect them. Bridleways are few and far between, and we have every right to be shown the same level of consideration as we show others. Our horses deserve to be protected under the same laws as other road users.

Please spare a minute to sign the petition. Thanks

Well the horses have been in less than a month but boy has it made a huge difference! They’ve all piled on some weight, and their legs have stopped swelling! I clipped Paco, then broke my toe (actually think it’s more than one toe 😳) so haven’t been able to ride cos can’t get boot on 🤪😬 the mess in front of yard from the digging and building, is getting on my nerves but not much we can do with it until it dries up a bit. We are catching water now so aren’t having to drag trailer with full IBC through it as much now (first time in a month yesterday actually). Its a shame we only have one IBC set up catching water for now but it’s a big help, there will be 4+ eventually 😊
Summer is on its way so we can soon get on with doing the barn and ancillaries and get everything tidied up 👍
But important thing is, horses are warm, dry and content at last 😁

At last, first night in. As you can see, Alfie
sh!tland has a little pen (temp) on slab where hay barn will be so rest assured, no extra trees or bushes were not cut down to accommodate him 🙄 (if you know….you know 😉)
