🚨 4 Years Post Blood Clot – My Story 🚨

Four years ago, my life changed overnight. I was hospitalized with a severe blood clot from my knee to my groin—just 10 days after my first AstraZeneca vaccine. At the time, I was prepping for a fitness model competition, training hard, and feeling strong. But suddenly, everything stopped.

I was put on blood thinners for life. Training—my escape, my passion—was taken from me. I was a single mum with no help at home, going through a breakup, stuck in lockdown. My mental health suffered. My biggest fear? Leaving my children behind.

At first, I thought I’d just pulled a muscle. My leg was sore, swollen—2cm bigger than my left—but no redness, no heat. By the time the doctor came back with my diagnosis, my life had already flashed before my eyes.

But the comeback is always stronger than the setback.

I took my time. I listened to my body. And in November 2021, I stepped back on stage and placed 2nd in the PRO category.

4 years on, I’m still on blood thinners. I still get pain in my leg, and my strength has never fully returned. But I am HERE. And I am still showing up!

I advocate strongly for recovery days as part of my clients and my own programmes, and here’s why;

✅ Muscle Repair and Growth: Recovery days are crucial for muscle repair and growth!

✅ Prevent Injury: Overtraining without adequate rest can lead to injuries such as strains, sprains, and stress fractures. Recovery days give your muscles, joints, and connective tissues time to heal and strengthen.

✅ Avoid Burnout: Physical and mental burnout can occur when you don’t allow your body and mind to rest. Taking regular recovery days helps prevent fatigue and keeps your motivation and enthusiasm for training high.

✅ Balance Hormones: Intense and continuous training without rest can disrupt your hormonal balance, leading to issues like elevated cortisol levels, which can hinder recovery and fat loss.

Rest and recovery are just as important as the workouts themselves! Incorporate regular rest days into your routine to optimize performance and prevent injury. Your body will thank you!

I don’t have the luxury of being able to go back in time, but I do have the ability to share my reflections and learnings over the past few years with you!

I believe we can all learn from each other at any age and stage of life, so here goes...

If I could go back in time and give my younger self some advice, here’s what I’d say:

1. Start Sooner, But Don’t Stress If You Don’t: It’s never too late to start your fitness journey. I didn’t begin until I was 34, and now, at 47, I’m fitter and happier than ever. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t start early. What matters is that you start.

2. Consistency Over Perfection: You don’t need to be perfect. Aim to be consistent. Small, steady steps forward are more sustainable than trying to overhaul your life overnight.

3. Find What You Love: Fitness should be fun, not a chore. Explore different activities until you find something you genuinely enjoy. Whether it’s weightlifting, yoga, running, or dancing, doing what you love will keep you motivated.

4. Nourish Your Body: Focus on eating nutritious foods that fuel your body. It’s not about deprivation, but about making choices that support your health and energy levels.

5. Prioritize Self-Care: Listen to your body and give it the rest it needs. Recovery is just as important as working out. Balance is key.

6. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Engage with a supportive community. Surround yourself with people who inspire and motivate you, and who believe in your journey.

7. Embrace the Journey: Celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward is a step towards a healthier you. Enjoy the process and be patient with yourself.

To my younger self, and to anyone starting their fitness journey later in life: you have more strength and potential than you realize. Keep pushing, stay positive, and remember that every day is a new opportunity to become a better version of yourself. 💪

MEET LORRAINE MOORE 😊

When Lorraine first came to me she wasn’t in a good place suffering anxiety and depression and she had zero confidence, she was snacking mostly in the evenings & was struggling to fit fitness into her busy life, she had been following my page here on instagram for a while and enjoyed my videos of strength training so after about three months she plucked up the courage and got in contact with Me

She wanted to tone up, lose weight, learn healthier eating habits and increase her energy 💪🏼

We worked together to create a bespoke programme, combining efficient workouts and balanced nutrition to fit around her busy lifestyle that we knew would work!
