My name is David Morris and I'm the Head Teaching Professional at the SJ Golf Academy, over the last 2/3 years we've seen massive changes to the face of the academy with first the Studio and then the Foresight GCQuad been added in 2020! Our aim at the Academy is to get everyone to enjoy playing golf, from the complete beginners to elite performers. At the Academy everyone who wants to play will ha

ve the best opportunity to do so all year round! With Junior coaching taking the main expansion this year with our new junior range being opened at Five Acres High School, the inter schools and club links are only going to develop, in turn helping all juniors to reach their best! With the academy based at the Forest of Dean GC, we have all access to on course coaching and on course short game sessions. With course improvements helping us stay outside focusing on every golfs developments. Custom club fitting is a Major aspect in all golfers being able to enjoy the game! Ill fitting equipment can set you on the wrong difficult path from the start so its a priority for us at the Academy that your equipment fits you. For those looking to upgrade their equipment these is no better place then our studio to work out exact club fittings for you using our various bands (Cobra, Srixon & Orka). SJ Golf Academy Update.
RE- Dave Coaching timeline.

“Hi everyone, just wanted to give an update on my current situation. Long story short the cancer is being controlled by the treatment I’m currently on and the treatment ill be on for the foreseeable future. However, this has come at a cost of my energy levels and overall struggles with fatigue. Long term this might not fully recover, so things will change a lot life wise and work wise for me over the coming years.

So looking towards the future, I’m currently in the process of leaving the Forest itself to move back to my parents house about an hour away in between Bristol & Bath. This doesn’t mean I’m leaving the golf club. Over the next month or so ill be working out plans to start back coaching again hopefully in July, however this will be a 1 day working week and then hopefully building in more days over the coming 6 months.

For those of my clients who have lessons pre-paid, I’d love to hear from you via email to start discussing individual plans and all eventualities. Please email me and not call as messages may get lost and email is easier for me to keep contact and records for the long term as well.

For those of my clients who haven’t got any prepaid lessons again feel free to email me and I can start fitting you all in as well to my diary going forward.

For all clients old & new it’ll be a long transition back to work for me so I thank you in advance for you patients during this time.

Id also like to finish this message off by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to check in on me over these last 3 months, its not an ideal situation but thank you all for being so understanding.

I look forward to seeing you all in the next few months and hopefully long term I can continue to push towards getting back to being a coach full time.

Good afternoon everyone, just an update from Dave,

“Hello everyone, firstly I hope everyone is fit, well and looking forward to the start of the golf season!

As some of you are aware I was diagnosed with Leukaemia about 4 weeks ago and it’s fair to say life’s been turned upside down! Currently undergoing treatment at Cheltenham Hospital on a regular basis. This treatment is having a major effect on energy levels and my ability to comprehend the simplest of tasks in my general day to day life. The idea of being able to be back out coaching and fitting seems a long way off just yet unfortunately.

If you’re a current client of mine please be assured any lessons that you’ve had prepaid will still be valid, they won’t run out at all. I’m currently not in a financial position to give refunds as of yet, if that changes I’ll notify those of you who wish to go down that route.

In the mean time feel free to continue to send me videos of your progress and practice sessions as this will massively help me as I’m sat on the sofa watching tv!! I’ll be as helpful as I can!!

I’ll try and keep everyone as updated as I can about my return to work! Hopefully asap as it’s painfully boring at home falling asleep all the time 😂.
