Brightlingsea Sailing Club

Brightlingsea Sailing Club One of the biggest and most active dinghy sailing clubs on the east coast of England, offering competitive and social sailing for all ages and abilities.

The club is one of the oldest, largest dinghy and certainly friendliest sailing clubs in the East of England. The Club is situated on the north east coast of Essex where the Colne Estuary meets the North Sea. BSC offers sailing in sheltered waters at all times of the tide for, dinghies, catamarans, and windsurfers and caters for novices to national champions. Complementing the terrific sailing programme is an active social scene that welcomes both new-comers and life-long members.

We have just completed our third Buoyed Up of the year, the children were from Brightlingsea Primary School, we finally had 3 days of great weather and gentle winds, all of the children were a real credit to the school, we sailed all 3 days and in between sailing the children caught 342 crabs! (They counted them). The smiles on the children’s faces and the constant laughter makes this such a great experience. This sailing adventure would not be possible without the Sir Thomas Lipton Foundation, the charity gets children on the water and gives them such a fantastic experience. We look forward to welcoming our next school in a couple of days. Thanks as always to all of our instructors, you really are a great team to work with.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former BSC Commodore Nigel Edmunds who died on Monday 1 June. Nigel played a very active role in club life for many years, including leading Tuesday night cadets for some years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nigel's children Steff and Gavin, his ex-wife Jackie and their family and friends at this most difficult time.

Members are invited to attend Nigel's funeral which will take place at 10.15am on Friday 3 July at Weeley Crematorium and to join the family to remember him at BSC afterwards.
