The 2nd XI have finally WON A GAME in nail biting fashion! 🥳🎉🍾
After 3 seasons and 42 games, Boxted 2s have their first victory in an exciting game against IPSCOL 3rds.
Fielding in the heat, we didn’t get off to a great start when, in the 2nd over, Jamie Lambert was struck by the ball above the eye while trying to take a catch. Unfortunately, he spent the rest of the afternoon at A&E, watching the drama unfold on Play Cricket. Thankfully, he is ok, having been glued back together.
Alan Varghese took 3 early wickets (3-59), including a caught and bowled off his new spin bowling. Meanwhile Roy Thomson bowled well but without any reward. The remaining 7 wickets were taken by part-time veteran bowler Steve Crayston with 4-33 and Jenson Durbridge 2-45. Plus, a run out with an excellent throw from ‘Dead Eye’ Jenson. IPSCOL were all out for 176 in 36.5 overs.
After tea, the chase was on!🏏 Opening partners Garry Green and Steve Crayston made a stand of 76 until Garry was out for 51.👊 Steve was left to hold the innings together as he was joined by 4 batsman who added 8 runs between them. With the score at 125 for 5, Josh Crayston, in his first game for 2 years, joined his dad in the run chase.
Next to go was Steve with an excellent 59 from 87 balls👏 as he was dismissed by a stunning full-length diving catch. The score was now 146 for 6. Josh would follow shortly. Now our opening bowlers, Roy and Alan, were at the wicket. Roy wasted no time as he hammered his first ball for 4. Alan and Roy got us within touching distance before Roy was bowled by a swinging yorker for 11 runs.
We were now down to our last 2 batters with Jamie sitting in A&E. Alan hit 2 boundaries in 1 over as the smell of victory was in the air and everyone was on the edge of their seats. It was down to the last man, Jenson, to hit the winning runs with a 4 down to third man to seal the historic victory and first-ever win as a team! Jubilant celebrations and relief followed as we gathered for a team photo to mark our tremendous win. 🏆
Well done everyone, a fantastic team effort, everyone played their part! 👍
Will the treasurer confirm if the club can stretch to an open top bus parade? 🚌
