Semi-final

vs Wryley Panthers

Extremely proud of my Lions today against a tough Wryley Panthers side. They tried to make it a kick fest from the first whistle and the Lions were getting sucked into and not playing our free flowing football but George came up with a moment of magic and scored an absolute half-volley worldwide from about 35yards out and we went 1-0 up

2nd half after a word from the coaches about not getting involved and play our football the Lions came out the traps firing and dominating most of the 2nd half. With the constant pressure on Wryley Panthers it was only a matter of time until we added to the score and up stepped George again with an almost a carbon copy of his first and scored yet another worldie. Charlie quickly scored a great header from a wicked cross by Cookie and the game was all but over. Wyrley Panthers still tried to intimidate and bully the Lions but they stood tall and saw out the game with a clean sheet to boot thanks to the magnificent defence and goal keeper.

Super proud of this team and an incredible bunch of kids, yet another final to play in next Sunday and 🤞🏼 cup number 2 for the season.

Codsall Lionesses

vs Old Wulfrunians

Super, super unlucky against a strong Old Wulfrunians side. The Lionesses took a deserved lead and were playing some outstanding football. Unfortunately a mix up in defence allowed there striker to tap in and just before half time they scored right off the corner which was unlucky.

2nd half Lionesses were still a bit asleep from the break and Old Wulfs scored a third in the first minute. But Lionesses struck back straight after and it made for a thrilling rest of the game. It was a hard fought game after that but the girls just ran out of steam and Old Wulfs punished us with 3 late goals right at the end

Always a good test against Old Wulfs and gettimg closer each time. Score line flattered them a tad but fair play they were ruthless

Next game is Kewford and hopefully another great performance

Quarter final
Vs Huntington Harriers

Assists: Sam B, Charlie, Max, Sam C, George

Another near perfect performance from the Lions tonight. Once again they were laser focused from whistle one and started quickly out the blocks with 3 goals scored within the first 15mins. Huntington just couldn’t handle the constant pressure on and off the ball and paired with excellent decision making 90% of the time from the Lions it was only a matter of time before we added one more before the half and a further 2 goals 2nd half and numerous other chances not punished

Huntington to their credit with their tireless running and commitment kept us at it scored two late on.

Onto the semi-finals now vs Wryley Panthers on Sunday and one step closer to hopefully cup number 2 for the season.

Vs Holy Name

The Lions put everything together today. Great football, great finishing and excellent battling and determination off the ball and the score line reflected that. Holy Name just couldn’t handle the relentless press from the Lions and the ruthless efficiency and finishing when we got the ball back.

Holy Name kept at it though and grabbed 2 goals themselves and perhaps could of got a few more if weren’t for the Lions brilliant defence and some great 1 on 1 saves from Edward

Brilliant performance against a good Holy Name side which ensures we finish top and play bottom of the other group in the quarters. So keep it up Lions and hopefully another trophy to stick into the cabinet looms

Absolutely swept aside a strong sporting Khalsa side today. Going foward the lions were unplayable at times and only lack of concentration and silly individual mistakes lead to Khalsa’s goals really. Fair play to Khalsa though they kept us on our toes, but two wins in two for our lions keep it going.

Vs Brereton Social Dragons

Again Lady Luck wasn’t quite on the lionesses side today. We hit the post, had two near certain goals saved by Brereton’s outstanding keeper and one off the line. The girls played some excellent stuff though, just didn’t get at least the draw they deserved. Last game of the season next week hopefully our luck changes and we finish on high.

Great start to our last cup run of the season. A World Cup style format, so finishing top of our mini group will be advantageous for the knockout rounds. The kids dominated from start to finish really and if we’d had a bit more composure we would have added a lot more to the score line.

Barnhurst kept us on our toes though and physically gave us a real challenge. But the Codsall Lions defence and keeper were in no mood to give Barnhurst a sniff and were excellent all game.

Vs Stone Alleyenes

Heart break for the girls today as they were pipped in the dying seconds after coming from behind to lead and create chance after chance after that to cruelly and rather unluckily concede at the death.

Brilliant display by the girls defensively and offensively and deserved at the very least a draw but was not to be. Fair play to Stone though for going right to the end.
