Last weekend, we received the devastating news of the sudden loss of one of our much-loved club members, Pete Faulkner.
Pete joined Derwent AC a few years ago and quickly became a valued part of our club family. He was always among the first to congratulate others on their achievements, offer encouragement, and wish fellow runners good luck before races. In fact, less than an hour before his passing, Pete was sharing a photo in the club group chat celebrating another Derwent AC member's success.
Pete's passion for running and adventure inspired many. Among his many achievements were completing a solo, unsupported Bob Graham Round in 2023, as well as taking on iconic ultra-distance events including the Lakeland 50 and the 5 Valleys Ultra.
His enthusiasm, kindness, and support for others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all at Derwent AC.
As a club, we will be undertaking a Bob Graham Round relay on 26thβ27th June. Pete would undoubtedly have loved to have been part of this challenge, so we will be carrying his Derwent AC club vest as our baton throughout the relay, ensuring he remains part of the journey. His partner, Hannah, and son, Finn, will join us on the road leg into Keswick and will carry Pete's club vest with great pride.
Pete touched the lives of so many people and inspired countless runners. Together with Hannah, Finn, and Pete's parents, we would like to invite anyone who knew Pete to join us for a moment of reflection and remembrance.
We will gather on the summit of Sale Fell at 4:00pm on Sunday 28th June.
Whether you choose to run, walk, jog, or cycle, everyone is welcome. The only aim is to be on the summit at 4:00pm as we come together to celebrate Pete's life, his achievements, and the impact he had on so many of us.
Run well, Pete. You will never be forgotten.
