π° All you need to know about the new-look Scottish Lowland Football League ahead of the new season!
Lowland League Board representation
The Lowland League AGM took place last Monday, and club director Ben Kearney was elected to the Lowland League's expanded Board.
Albion Rovers' league opponents
The Lowland League's membership has doubled from 16 to 32 clubs, who will play across two divisions, the West and East.
will play in the West alongside four of last season's LL west-based clubs: Clydebank FC, Caledonian Braves, Cumbernauld Colts and Gretna FC 2008.
Joining us are 11 new members from the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division: Auchinleck Talbot FC, Cumnock Juniors FC, Troon Football Club, Pollok Football Club, Largs Thistle Football Club, Johnstone Burgh, Kilwinning Rangers, Renfrew FC and Beith Juniors aswell as two new members from the South Of Scotland Football League in Dalbeattie Star and Newton Stewart.
Our division also has a guest club, Celtic FC B, meaning our league will run with 17 teams next term.
The East division will run with 16 clubs, taking in five new members from its feeder leagues.
Promotion & relegation
*all of this is licensing dependent...
Promotion-wise, the champions of both divisions can compete in a round-robin contest along with the Highland League winners for the right to take on the SPFL's Club 42. The pyramid play-off is still the same, a two-tie affair with the SPFL side at home for the second leg.
Relegation-wise, two clubs can be relegated from each division. Again, there is a licensing disclaimer here. But in theory, two from the West and two from the East could go down with the champion from each feeder league winning promotion.
Cups
No changes for next season. The South Challenge Cup will still take place, as will the Lowland League Cup. The format for the latter is TBC.
We will, of course, still be involved in the Scottish Cup too. The club also applied for a wild card entry to the SPFL's cup competitions. Those who applied across the fifth tier will be eagerly awaiting detials and any successful applications regarding the 2026/27 KDM Evolution Trophy (Scottish Challenge Cup).
Other clubs in the West are likely to take part in other cup competitions such as the Scottish Communities Cup.
