πŸ“° All you need to know about the new-look Scottish Lowland Football League ahead of the new season!

Lowland League Board representation

The Lowland League AGM took place last Monday, and club director Ben Kearney was elected to the Lowland League's expanded Board.

Albion Rovers' league opponents

The Lowland League's membership has doubled from 16 to 32 clubs, who will play across two divisions, the West and East.

will play in the West alongside four of last season's LL west-based clubs: Clydebank FC, Caledonian Braves, Cumbernauld Colts and Gretna FC 2008.

Joining us are 11 new members from the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division: Auchinleck Talbot FC, Cumnock Juniors FC, Troon Football Club, Pollok Football Club, Largs Thistle Football Club, Johnstone Burgh, Kilwinning Rangers, Renfrew FC and Beith Juniors aswell as two new members from the South Of Scotland Football League in Dalbeattie Star and Newton Stewart.

Our division also has a guest club, Celtic FC B, meaning our league will run with 17 teams next term.

The East division will run with 16 clubs, taking in five new members from its feeder leagues.

Promotion & relegation

*all of this is licensing dependent...

Promotion-wise, the champions of both divisions can compete in a round-robin contest along with the Highland League winners for the right to take on the SPFL's Club 42. The pyramid play-off is still the same, a two-tie affair with the SPFL side at home for the second leg.

Relegation-wise, two clubs can be relegated from each division. Again, there is a licensing disclaimer here. But in theory, two from the West and two from the East could go down with the champion from each feeder league winning promotion.

Cups

No changes for next season. The South Challenge Cup will still take place, as will the Lowland League Cup. The format for the latter is TBC.

We will, of course, still be involved in the Scottish Cup too. The club also applied for a wild card entry to the SPFL's cup competitions. Those who applied across the fifth tier will be eagerly awaiting detials and any successful applications regarding the 2026/27 KDM Evolution Trophy (Scottish Challenge Cup).

Other clubs in the West are likely to take part in other cup competitions such as the Scottish Communities Cup.

πŸ“° Albion Rovers can confirm that manager Sandy Clark and assistant manager George Paterson have today joined Queen of the South.

Both joined the Club during a difficult period and helped stabilise, professionalise and modernise the football department over a three-year period.

They went over and above in their roles despite having to balance demanding and busy jobs outside Albion Rovers.

With everything now agreed, we thank Sandy and George for all their hard work during their time at the Club. We wish both of them all the very best for the future.

β€œFirst of all, I want to wish Sandy and George all the very best for the future,” a board spokesperson said.

β€œBoth worked tirelessly to revamp the Club’s football department while also enjoying busy professional careers away from Albion Rovers.

β€œThe impact they have made on the Club will continue to benefit Albion Rovers going forward.

β€œThe opportunity for both to work with Nicky Clark full-time at Queen of the South is an exciting one. We hope that the move brings success.

β€œAlan Reid has agreed to take on an interim role at this time to support the Board.

β€œThe Board would also like to wish Michael Paton well in his new role at Caley Braves, which was recently announced.”

Albion Rovers are now seeking to recruit a suitably qualified new manager to take charge of the team in the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League West. Thus applications are invited for the post of manager/player manager at The Reigart Stadium.

Applications should include your football related CV and details of coaching qualifications held. They should be submitted to the Board by email to – [email protected]
