I raced at Darley Moor EMCR Percy Stanard series on Sunday. I was away on for about 50mins of the race and got bought back. Team mate Graham Waller got away, working with another rider, I then attacked to get back on and ended up 3rd and Graham taking the win. It was a good team effort and I really enjoyed it, do love a bit of road racing especially on closed circuits.
………..
Onto Team Bottrill Nopinz riders, Blake Pond rode the Magic shine 10TT taking the win in 20:39, he’s really flying this season.
Kerry Hickson taking the win in the women’s World Age-Group Team Standard Distance Aquabike Qualifier - fantastic result
…………..
Jake Sargent taking the win in 51:54 with Rob Francis taking second in 51:58 and Dylan Griffiths 4th in 54:57 at Chippenham district wheelers 25TT.
……………
Moving onto triathlon, Tony Ward had a great race yesterday at the English National Std Distance Champs in Northumbria. A stretch goal for the race was an AG podium place, and Tony nailed this, claiming silver, and only 5 seconds off the top step. A new PB for the swim set him up well, followed by a sub 60 min bike split.
…………
Rounding off the weekend was the Team Bottrill Nopinz stateside with our coached riders George, Mike, Nathan and Alex taking on Unbound which is a 206 mile gravel event in Kansas, awesome team work and George winning his age group! It’s on my list to come and do it with you guys 👊

“Efficiency – This applies to both you and your bike. Firstly, working on your pedalling efficiency (the fluidity of your pedal stroke) will help save energy for the run. This can be achieved by incorporating pedal efficiency drills into training focusing on pulling and pushing through the bottom/top of the pedal stroke making it more even.

Secondly the drivetrain efficiency of your bike can impact upon how much of the power you put into the pedals is converted to speed. Choosing low friction lubricants or waxing your chain can help reduce these losses.”

Back on the TT bike!
Where it all stems from for me. It’s mad how the body just adapts back to the position, after the last couple of years focussing more on Gravel and MTB, I needed to switch things up and have a change from the TT. Gravel and MTB allow me to switch off and have fun. But I’m doing the bike leg in the relay at Outlaw in a couple of weeks and wanted to get the Trinity back out for a blast to see if the body still had it!
………….
So I rode the Matlock CC 10TT Sunday morning and got 2nd Overall in 21:36 it was great to get back out on it and blow the cobwebs away. Looking forward to Outlaw now in a couple of weeks.
………….
This is my Giant Trinity custom build, with some upgrades, starting with the Drag2zero .44 cockpit, Cadex 4 spoke and rear Disc. Csixx chain ring with the Overfast Aero cranks- these really finish the bike off. Rounding off with the Ceramic speed OSPW and Gebiomize Stride saddle. Get in touch if you are looking for some of these upgrades to your Triathlon and TT bike. Every bit counts.

Check out Nikki Bartlett’s top 3 reasons for choosing the Cadex bike for triathlon.
………………
Top 3 reasons,

1. Long distance comfort: insane comfort in the TT position for long distances / and or constant TT bar time. I’ve never experienced this, but I get no neck or upper back ache now during and after rides. The geometry is designed for comfort specifically for triathlon.

2. Integrated hydration and nutrition means it’s so easy to fuel and take the nutrition you want on course with you.

3. Feels fast and rides so well around corners and on technical bike courses and routes.

Great seeing our coached athletes smashing it and achieving their goals. I have worked with Ivan on bike fitting and he has also come on board last year for Tri coaching with MBPC coach Pete Eggleston. Pete reports on Ivan’s fantastic result at Ironman South Africa last weekend.
…………….

Ivan kicked off his season last weekend, racing Ironman South Africa, with the goal of bagging a slot for Kona. This was achieved, in some style, with Ivan winning the 60-64 category and securing his slot. The swim was tough, as is often the case in Port Elizabeth, but Ivan stuck to the plan and got out on the bike in 4th. He then set the fastest bike split in the category and a quick T2 put in him pole position as he headed out on the run. Although the run was tougher than expected, he followed up the strong bike with the fastest marathon in his AG, securing the win by over 13 mins.

A very impressive performance, which was well deserved given the hard work and dedication over the winter months (and an unconventional taper based around a week’s skiing!).

Kona booked in and the season focus, once recovered, now shifts to 70.3 world champs qualification.

Proving a good coach / athlete relationship really does bring great outcomes, fantastic work guys👊.

Sea otter gravel 90 miles

It’s always been a dream of mine to do the sea otter gravel classic. I read about the event every year and this year I decided to take part .

90 miles with over 10000ft of climbing I’d never going to be easy coming from the uk . My longest ride leading into this was 4hrs so it’s never going to be easy with a 6hrs race .

For myself I was in the 40-49 Ag, from the gun the pace was hot was well to hard for me to handle I was in the first 10 but hitting the first climb I knew I had to back off and settle into my own pace which I did. I ended up coming in at a time of 6hrs 6mins.

The team also had a great day out . Nathan patten 9th (40-49)
Alex Martin 16th ( 40-49 )
George Eyles 6th ( 50-59)
Michael middleton 7th (50-59)

It’s pretty cool having Team Bottrill Nopinz branch out to other country’s when I started the team and coaching 11 years ago I never thought this would be possible.

Cycling is all about enjoyment for me now and this was another bucket list event ticked off.

I finished the trip with 53 mile sportive the day after riding with Keith Dorling , it’s memories like this you remember forever.

This weekend I raced the British masters , Lincoln wheelers Percy Stallard round 1 race series.

I’ve been processing this race for a while and had a clear focus to try and win. I’ve found over the last few years I just tend to turn up and don’t really process the race . So from the new year I’ve had this as a stepping stone to my first big target which is the sea otter classic gravel race.

My training has been going well and I’ve dropped down to riding 5 days but I’m doing 2x strength and conditioning sessions on the other two. Under the guidance of Simon Beldon, I hate planning my own training and like having the accountability.

Anyway into the race I felt good from the start. There was an early break with my Team mate Graham Waller, who I managed to bridge over solo. I was rewarded with some 400+ power reading which I’ve not seen in a long time!

We worked well together then and later on we were joined by 3 others . I could see that some of the other athletes where struggling so with 2 laps to go I attacked around a corner, got a gap with Richard Sharpe and we manged to keep away. With half a lap left Rich got cramp so I was able to press on and push to the finish.

It feels good to win. You take it for granted when you’re at the top, but years of just going through the motions I will enjoy this win.

Thanks to everybody that supported the race.

Always good to have Pete Lavine by my side and well done to my team mate Graham Waller for taking 3rd place. We really worked togther well today 👊
