We practice traditional Wado-Ryu Karate with the opportunity for competition sport karate. We take children from as young as 4 if accompanied by an adult, or 5 years on their own. Our classes are mixed age and ability as we see the best results operating this way!

⚠️ Not our usual banter – but this one hits home.

A child has tragically passed away from measles at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and whilst the child had other medical problems, measles contributed to their death.

This isn’t a throwback to Victorian times — measles is back, and it’s deadly serious.

🧠 It’s highly contagious and can lead to life-threatening complications like pneumonia and encephalitis. It’s not “just a rash.”

🔍 Know the signs and symptoms:

* High fever
* Cough
* Runny nose
* Red, watery eyes
* Small white spots inside the cheeks (Koplik spots)
* A blotchy red rash, usually starting on the face and spreading down the body

🚨 If you suspect measles:

* Do NOT go straight to A&E, your GP, or walk-in – call ahead or use NHS 111
* Isolate the person as much as possible – measles spreads through coughs and sneezes
* Seek urgent medical advice, especially if symptoms worsen

💉 Prevention is key – the MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and saves lives. No child should die from a preventable disease.

Our thoughts are with the family, and with the hospital and ambulance staff who fought to save them. Tough scenes that no one forgets.
