🎉 Huge congratulations to Caitlyn on recently qualifying as a BSAC Ocean Diver 🤿🌊

Since joining Clydebank Sub Aqua Club in April 2025, Caitlyn has thrown herself into her training and is now officially ready for plenty more underwater adventures 🦀🐟🦞

As one of the younger members of the club, it's been great to see her progress and grow in confidence throughout the course 👏😁

The only casualty of this success story is likely to be Stuart's wallet, which is now facing the inevitable reality of funding a rapidly growing collection of dive gear 💸😂

Well done, Caitlyn — we can't wait to see where your diving takes you next! 🤿✨

Ocean Divers Take on Oban 🌊🤿🍕

One pizza oven, six divers, one compressor, twelve-ish cylinders, and one boat powered by approximately 45 raging horses made the two-hour journey north to Oban for the long weekend 🚤💨🏴

The SS Breda was our primary target, followed by a few scenic dives at some of the area’s classic sites 🛳️⚓

For some of our home-grown Ocean Divers, this was their first proper away-from-home dive trip — the full experience of loading boats, planning dives, filling cylinders, eating constantly, and somehow still finding the energy to dive again the next morning 😅🤿

We were blessed with decent weather ☀️ and cursed with a tactical assault from the local midges 🦟😤
But it’s almost summer in Scotland… what else do you expect?

The diving was exactly what you’d hope for from Oban — wrecks, scenery, cold water, and plenty of life 🌊🦀🐟

But let’s be honest… the second most important thing on any dive trip is the food 🍕🔥

Which is exactly why the pizza oven earned prime position on the kit list 😎

The midweek squad didn’t even have time to let their kit dry properly after the weekend before they were right back out diving at Anchor Point today ⚓🤿

We don’t know what Dave’s secret is, but somehow octopuses seem to appear everywhere he goes 🐙😂

The divers also spotted wrasse cruising about and some conger eels hiding away in the cracks and gullies 🐍🐟👀

A bit of training, a bit of fun diving, and another cracking evening underwater 🌊✨

Not a bad day’s work really 😎🤿

A healthily-sized group of CSAC divers (plus a few assorted friends) sacrificed a lie-in and rolled south at the crack of dawn to Seahouses Harbour for a day diving the Farne Islands 🌅🚐🤿

Skippered by the excellent Serenity Boat Tours, we enjoyed the sunshine, the scenery, and for some… the full authentic North Sea seasickness experience 🤢🌊😂

The huge crowds of seals on the rocks didn’t quite translate into underwater chaos, but a few lucky divers still got some very cool seal encounters 🦭💙

The real standout had to be the visibility though — crystal clear water with no torches needed all the way down to 20m 👀✨

The rocky reefs and kelp forests were a very nice change from our usual west coast mud and sea lochs 🌿🪨

Loads of life about too, including lobsters, butterfish, scorpionfish, sea urchins, anemones, and a couple of wrasse that seemed very interested in staring us down 🦞🐟😐

For some of the group, it was also their first time diving from a proper hard boat — complete with hot drinks and an actual diver lift ☕🚤

Safe to say, going back to launching a RIB the Scottish way might feel a little less glamorous now 😅

After yesterday’s dive, we might have mentioned there was a pretty cool boat sitting up the loch… so naturally a few people came back to check it out 🛳️✈️🚁😍

Not that we needed much of an excuse — we had some more twinset and DSMB training lined up anyway 💪🤿🎈

Another lovely day (possibly the tail end of the Scottish summer 😎) for getting out diving in Loch Long, at Scotland’s premier dive site — A Frames 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛩️🌊

Good dives, good vibes, good training, and excellent company 🤿✨

Where have we seen that yellow drysuit before… 👀💛
Oh yeah — that’ll be our DO James 😍

One week he’s teaching twinset courses, the next he’s down on the seabed helping recover lost fishing gear 🤩⚙️

Some seriously awesome work being done by Ghost Fishing UK , and even more impressive when you see it happening right there in the water 🤿🌊

CSAC Twinset Course 😱 + Dive Leader Training 🪖

David got a taste of the gateway drug to what some might call technical diving 🥸🤿

The Twinset course is no joke — challenging, but packed full of useful skills: problem solving, buoyancy control, frog kicks, and all the good stuff that carries over into both recreational and slightly more techy diving 💪⚙️

Meanwhile, Gordon was ticking off more of his Dive Leader training — with a solid 8m viz and some properly refreshing Scottish temperatures 🥶🌊

Highlight of the day? A seal turning up mid-skill while Gordy was doing mask clears… because nothing says calm, controlled training like being judged by a seal 😂🦭

One of the most important and underappreciated roles in the club has to be the Equipment Officer 😍🔧

Keeping all the gear that keeps the club diving clean, serviced, and ready to go is no small task ⚙️🛢️😅

This was the very official handover ceremony as outgoing Equipment Officer David passed over the keys — and a ceremonial fin — to incoming Equipment Officer Lee 🔑🤝🦈

Huge thanks to David for all the hard work behind the scenes — the dives simply don’t happen without it 👏🤿

Best of luck to Lee… may your O-rings stay intact, your compressor behave, and the club boat engine never fail you (or us) 🙏🏾🔧🔥

It’s always great to see the work that Ghost Fishing UK are doing — especially in and around our local waters and the dive sites we visit all the time 🤿🌊

Makes you appreciate even more what’s beneath the surface… and the effort going in to protect it 💙
