🎉2025 has been a landmark year for Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club, celebrating outstanding on-court success, a busy coaching programme, record-breaking membership, and a vibrant social scene. Across all sections of the club, from juniors to veterans, the strength, depth and spirit of Clevedon LTC have been on full display….

Team Successes 💪🎾🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
The year began in emphatic fashion with Clevedon crowned Avon Mixed Winter League Division 2 Champions, remaining unbeaten throughout the entire season – a superb achievement that set the tone for the year ahead.
The North Somerset Summer League delivered exceptional results:
The Men’s 1st Team were crowned Division 1 Champions, winning every match to emphatically reclaim their position as the top men’s team in the county.
The Men’s 2nd Team secured the Division 2 title, while the 3rd Team won Division 4.
The 4th Team narrowly missed out on promotion after a highly competitive season.
In addition, the club proudly fielded 5th and 6th men’s teams, who played a programme of friendlies and achieved some excellent results, highlighting the club’s impressive strength in depth.
The North Somerset Ladies’ Team also performed strongly across their divisions, continuing to develop and compete at a high level. The North Somerset 1st Team finished 3rd in the top division, the 2nd team won division 4, the 3rd team finished mid table also in division 4 and the 4th team gained promotion from division 7.
In the Avon Leagues, Clevedon enjoyed further success:
The Avon Men’s teams won Division 4 and gained promotion from Division 9.
The Ladies’ teams won Division 5.
The Avon Men’s 45+ Team once again demonstrated their quality and consistency by retaining the Avon League title.

Junior Tennis & Coaching
Junior tennis continues to flourish at Clevedon. The club fielded junior teams for both boys and girls across 10&U, 11&U, 12&U, 14&U and 18&U age groups, reflecting the strength and depth of the junior section.
Supporting this success is a comprehensive junior coaching programme for children aged 3 to 18 years, offering structured group sessions for beginners alongside invite-only sessions for the club’s top junior players, ensuring talent is both nurtured and challenged.

Adult Coaching & Participation
Adult coaching remains a key strength of the club, with sessions catering for beginners, improvers, club players and league competitors. In addition, Cardio Tennis has continued to grow in popularity, offering a high-energy workout focused on fitness, movement and intensity in a fun, tennis-based environment.
Alongside coaching, the club runs a wide range of social play sessions throughout the week, ensuring members of all abilities have regular opportunities to play, improve and connect.

Membership & Club Life
2025 also marked a milestone off the court, with Clevedon enjoying its busiest membership ever, boasting more members than at any point in the club’s 145-year history — a remarkable achievement and a testament to the welcoming, inclusive atmosphere of the club.
Members have enjoyed a full calendar of activities, including:
Regular social tennis sessions
Tennis holidays to destinations both in the UK and abroad
A well-stocked bar, comfortable clubhouse, and lovely well maintained grounds
A busy and varied social calendar, ensuring the club remains a thriving hub both on and off the court
New LED lighting for all courts

Looking Ahead
With league titles across multiple competitions, a well run junior pathway, record membership numbers, and a strong sense of community, 2025 will be remembered as a great year in Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club’s long and proud history. The challenge now is to build on this momentum and look forward to more achievements in the seasons ahead.

With so much going on even this long review will no doubt have missed something. Thank you to all our club volunteers and coaches.

Whilst 2025 competitions are all completed, our Junior teams have got a combined 26 more fixtures to look forward to in early 2026 🎾🎾🙂. Lots more exciting tennis matches and results to come!

Gabriella & Amy had a great win against Woodlands Tennis club in the 12U Girls

Faith & Summer had close rallies and games despite losing to Woodlands Tennis club in the 14U Girls

Rowan & Jozef had some competitive matches against Almondsbury despite losing on this occasion in the 12U Boys
Louis P & Thomas fought hard against an in-form Woodlands team but lost this time in the 12U Boys.

Liam & Louis Y won all matches against Henleaze in the 18U Boys
Liam & Charlie also won all matches when they played Sodbury in the 18U Boys

🎉We had a great day of tennis with juniors from the age of 9-17 years competing in the Norman Thompson Cup Doubles tournaments.

Norman was our club President for many years and a strong supporter of the social side of tennis as much as the competitive aspect. Therefore this event is followed by a junior Christmas party with pizza enjoyed by the players. 🍕

Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club juniors have been back in action competing in the Avon Youth Winter League! 🎾

Girls Under 12, represented by Gabriella and Amy, are currently 4th in their division.
In their first match of the season, the girls were tied after their singles, with Gabriella clinching a win in a championship tie break, and Amy sadly losing a well fought first ever match; unfortunately the girls lost in the deciding doubles against Redland Green, but enjoyed playing none the less!
The girls were once again tied 1-1 after their singles matches against Winterbourne girls, but this time they won the deciding doubles match on a thrilling champ tie break!!

Girls Under 14, represented by Faith and Summer, are currently 3rd in their division.
Our girls had 3 very close matches against Bishop Sutton with tie breaks galore, but it was the Bishop Sutton girls who won this time.
The girls were tied 1-1 after their singles matches against David Lloyd Emerson Green. They went on to win an exciting, couldn't have been closer, champ tie break in the doubles to seal the overall win.

Boys Under 12 represented by Rowan, Louis & Thomas, are currently 1st in their division.
Louis and Rowan won their singles matches against the Henleaze boys with Louis clinching a brilliant 11-9 win in the champ tie break decider. Henleaze went on to win the doubles on another 3rd set decider but Clevedon won overall.
Rowan and Thomas were tied 1-1 after some close singles matches against Backwell, with our boys going on to win the deciding doubles match to clinch the overall win.

Boys Under 14, represented by Will, Arthur & Thomas, are currently 1st in their division with 4 out of 4 wins!
Will and Arthur won their singles and doubles matches against Backwell.
Will and Arthur had some strong wins against David Lloyd Emersons Green where they got to play away on indoor courts. They also had a win away against Almondsbury.
With Arthur away, Thomas stepped up from the U12's and narrowly lost his singles match against Henleaze. They were tied 1-1 with Will winning a close match, the boys did really well to win the deciding doubles match especially as this was their first match playing together.

Boys Under 18, represented by Liam, Louis & JJ, are currently 3rd in their division.
Louis and JJ had some very close matches against the Backwell team, but this time it was the Backwell boys who got the wins.
Liam and Louis won all matches against Almondsbury on home turf.

👏Stunning start to North Somerset League Season!…

Last week saw the 2025 summer season kick off, with Men playing matches on Monday evenings and Ladies on Tuesdays.

Each fixture consists of 4 doubles matches and everyone of our teams came away victorious!

With four official men’s teams, plus an extra team playing competitive “friendlies” away from home and four ladies teams this was a perfect 9 out of 9!

Top billing goes to our Men’s 1 & Ladies 1 Teams who were both facing last seasons Champions of Wedmore and Bridgwater, respectively. The men pulled off a stunning 4-9 away win (1 point per set and 2 bonus points for an overall fixture victory) and the ladies sealed a narrow 7-5 home win.

This week sees a break for the bank holiday before Avon league starts on Friday, National League continues on Sunday then North Somerset League recommencing next week. With junior & veteran teams also competing throughout the summer there is lots of exciting matches on the cards.

Don’t forget to place your vote when you shop in Tesco…
We are keen to encourage our junior players to compete more outside of coaching sessions. To do this, we would like to run a series of internal tournaments.
Our Head Coach, Matt says “It would be great if you could vote for us, the more money we can raise, the more opportunities we can offer for our junior players. Please like and share this post!”

To Junior coaching parents….
A reminder that we have a two week break from the regular coaching programme in the Easter Holidays. There are NO junior sessions on Thursdays 10th & 17th and Saturdays 12th & 19th. For those of you on the monthly payments these breaks are factored in to the price.
I am finding out if there are still any spaces on the tennis camp we are running at The Downs School next week, please ask if you are interested in this.
