The squad, which started in 1971, the only Swim England Accredited squad in Derbyshire, is based at Sharley Park Leisure Centre, Market Street, Clay Cross. (Tel: 01246 217277). The Squad is run by Head Coach Alyssa Ward, Coaches Katie Hibbs, Mia Hudson, Livvy Shelton, Hannah McDermott, Becky Nash, Evie Greenhalgh, Lauren Tann, and Team Manager/Coordinator Sharon Hudson. Currently we have approximately 44 swimmers and this sport is for both girls and boys from the age of 7 who must be able to confidently swim at least 4 lengths of a 25m pool and be very confident under water and in deep water. Swimmers start at novice level in our fun Synchro Stars sessions, then move up into teams where they work through the National figure and routine grades 1-5. It is a great social sport - the swimmers learn to work well in a Team which increases confidence as well as athletic ability, but they also have the opportunity to excel on an individual basis at competitions. During the year the Squad participates in several competitions at venues around the region. Also there are social activities for members such as a Christmas Party, and various events through the year. Times of Training:
Saturday: 5.15-6.30pm for the Synchro Stars, and 5.15-7:30pm for the Team swimmers. This can change because of galas, please check our page. Training takes place at Sharley Park and includes occasional land training, for routine walkthroughs when required. We also have development days throughout the year where we have other coaches in different disciplines of sport visit us and give different types of training. Equipment:
Equipment needed for normal training sessions include a club swim cap and nose clip which can be purchased from the synchro section, also a black swimming costume, goggles and towel. The nose clip is a very important piece of equipment for synchronised swimmers; it prevents water entering the nasal cavity when upside down and causing sinus infections. Subscriptions:
An annual subscription of £46.50 is payable to Rykneld Swimming Club in January of each year. At the beginning of every month, monthly fees of £25 for novices, and £31 for Team swimmers are due.
