Wingerworth Fencing Club

Wingerworth Fencing Club Formed in 2000, Wingerworth Fencing Club is an Epee club based in Clay Cross, Derbyshire. Above all it's great fun!!!!

Fencing provides a unique mix of physical, intellectual and emotional stimulation. Unlike many other sports it's very sociable and still carries notions of honour, chivalry and nobility. This does not mean the sport is exclusive or expensive, in fact we strive to minimise costs and encourage people from all walks of life to take up the sport

The club caters predominantly for epee, although foil a

nd sabre are available. The club is well equipped and has many qualified coaches on hand to help everyone reach their potential. The club caters for all ages from 12 to 50+ and all abilities from beginners to international competitors and run a number of beginner's courses throughout the year.

Competition Time πŸ† What to bring?

With some of our fencers soon to be entering their first competitions, I have come up with this list to advise on what you should be sure to bring. Please drop anything you think we’ve missed in the comments!

- Fencing whites (breeches, jacket, 800N plastron, glove, chest protector if needed)
- Lame (if foil or sabre)
- Fencing shoes (or whatever shoes you usually fence in)
- Long socks (that stay up)
- Mask
- Two working wires (+ two mask wires for foil or sabre)
- Two legal weapons (if you don’t know what this means, ask your coach)
- Emergency armoury kit (technically non essential as somebody at the competition will have this stuff, but very useful for quick repairs)
- Snacks!
- Water bottle
- Hairbands (to tie back long hair)
- You might also want to consider a towel, a change of clothes, headphones, phone charger, etc

The Entry Fee Support Scheme is open for the 2026 British Youth Championships!

BF is mindful of the rising costs of attending fencing events and the potential barrier to participation this creates for some members of our community.

The Entry Fee Support Scheme offers a limited number of free entries to BF events. Places are offered based on financial need, not on ability and covers 100% of the entry fee cost.
