A Short Story ....

Marigold is our lovely new RIB, which sits on a lovely new trailer. There are 3 points to note:

1. The trailer's rollers are super smooth and the video shows how easily they rotate.

2. Because of the easy rolling rollers, there is a sign highlighting that the RIB should be kept secured to the trailer winch until the boat is floating in the water. Otherwise, there is a likelihood that the RIB will roll off the trailer as the slipway starts to angle downwards and before it reaches the water. This is sort of what it is designed to do.

3. The final picture is of some of the orange flakes of hull fibreglass that Marigold leaves on the slipway when this notice is overlooked and the RIB smoothly rolls off the trailer and onto the concrete when it is unclipped from the trailer's winch strap too soon at the top of the slipway.

OUCH!

Incidents happen; even to experienced people. No one was hurt, though some were alarmed. Everyone does their best. Our lovely Club does not blame people for honest mistakes.

The moral of this story: +++ Read the signs placed on equipment. +++

July's Exec Meeting & a Question.

++Question++ : We really want to help sailors bridge the gap between obtaining their RYA L2 and being happy to helm in a wider range of conditions. What would members like their Club to offer in terms of support? Please feel free to comment below or email Peter H at [email protected].

Our ExCo also discussed:
- The successful sale of surplus Topper dinghies to Members. Our RS200 should be able to be repaired under its insurance and then we can sell it on.
- We want to create a short promotional video about why people should join the Club.
- Club finances are acceptable.
- Should drones be allowed to be used over our Lake subject to approval?
- Taking action to make Wilson (the Committee Boat) less attractive to nesting birds.
- Next time a RIB is life-expired, looking at cheaper alternative watercraft such as dories.
- Debating whether a lighter, electric trimmer should be made available to help people maintain their berths. The case wasn't made convincingly.

If this sounds interesting and you have views, then places on the Exec Committee come around every year. Please do feel free to get in touch about joining the exec team. Fresh and diverse faces are extremely welcome!

On the 5 th June a Dowty Turbocraft boat called Rowdy Dowty set sail from Lake 16 at South Cerney- this was the lake where Donald Campbell trialled the boat 65 years ago.
The BBC attended the occasion and BBC Points West plan to feature the story TOMORROW ( 17th June) in their 6.30pm edition

SCSC June Exec Committee Meeting - What happened ...

Our fantastic ExCo met last night to facilitate the continued operation of our lovely Club. We welcomed Peter McK as the new book keeper, taking over from the brilliant Paul M.

Topics covered were: sale of surplus Club dinghies; repairs and improvements to the clubhouse, garages and lakeside; agreeing the way ahead on our Landlord's offer to amend our lease payment profile (phrasing this in a non-specialist manner!), agreeing a contribution to the Cadet's attendance at their World Championship and other bits of admin.
The best news is that memberships are UP on last year - a HUGE thanks you to all our members who act as ambassadors to the Club. Steve K, our illustrious Treasurer, also reported our funds are broadly satisfactory.
Some members still need to sign-up for their annual duties ..... or buy them out.

All this done in 62 minutes as we recognise that Members have limited time available for long meetings. We always welcome new , action-orientated members to our Exec Committee. It could be you?

Thanks to Jo S, our excellent Secretary who kept the show on the road/ boat on the lake.

If this prompts any questions or observations then please do get in touch with Blair at [email protected].
