UPDATED STATEMENT -
We are aware of recent social media posts and comments circulating regarding the water quality at our facility and the potential impact on public health.
We take these concerns extremely seriously and have been working closely with the relevant authorities, including Thames Water, Environmental Health Organisation, Environmental Agency and the UK Health Security Agency, to establish the facts and to ensure the safety of our customers. We appreciate your patience whilst we gathered the appropriate tests to ensure that we can provide factual and accurate information.
We have sought confirmation regarding the safety of our bathing waters and following the results and information available to us from the authorities listed above, we can confirm that our facility remains safe for bathing and the water quality is normal.
The allegation circulated on social media specifically referred to Campylobacter, a bacterium commonly associated with foodborne infection. We would like to make clear that there is no established evidence of a direct link between our bathing water and the illnesses being referenced online.
The Aphanocapsa count shown on the report below is the only count that was detected. No other taxons are listed on the report because they were not found to be present in the lake sample.
We continue to hold our an 'Excellent' bathing water quality rating issue by the Environmental Agency.
We will continue to follow our normal, established water quality monitoring procedures. We conduct water quality testing weekly, with samples sent to a professional laboratory for analysis. In addition, during peak season, the Environmental Agency carries out its own testing twice a month, with testing taking place once a month during the off season.
We understand that social media can understandably cause concern. However, we would urge members of the public not to rely on unverified social media comments or speculation. The information currently being circulated is not supported by the facts and the testing evidence available to us. There is not an established direct correlation between our bathing water and the alleged illnesses being referenced online.
The safety and wellbeing of our customers remain our highest priority. We will continue to monitor water quality closely, work with the relevant authorities and provide updates should there be any material change to the current situation.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust.
