A couple of doubles on Courtfield in the WUF feedback at last! How many others go unrecorded. Friday 4th August L.F. from Banbury. The footfall and fishing pressure on Courtfield is minimal and swims are less 'flattened' than usual at this time of year.

There as been a bit of extra water in the river, but still low and pretty ideal for Wyebank. Some peaty colour today and foam, suggesting the water has come from the Welsh hills up by Rhayader or somewhere similar. Tony and Tim have caught loads of barbel and chub early this morning on Wyebank.

Plenty of barbel and chub coming out of Wyebank. Concentrate on the Bottom Pool and the Wyebank Crib, with good trotting water from the island down to Wyebank crib. Although it is probably too busy with canoes and swimmers when hot and sunny, there are some good pools to fish for barbel along the Tump/Riverside Park stretch, which ticket holders of Wyebank can fish for free as long as it is not being fished by rods from the right bank or by Courtfield ticket holders. The July weather has seen less swimming activity and the run below the island is generally full of fish.

WYEBANK is producing lots of fish and not just from the Bottom Pool. WUF feedback from T.H. from Highbridge on Friday 30th "First visit to this stretch of the wye, a low fast section but perfect for trotting a float.
All fish caught using either banded pellet or meat.
Barbel to 4lb
Chub to 5lb+
Brilliant day with no stop action as long as I kept the feed going in.

13 Barbel, 56 Chub"
Fish caught fishing from the Wyebank crib halfway down the beat. Wading and trotting can cover all of the beat.

Courtfield wood stretch is looking good, with fish movement in evenings to dark. Swims accessible after trimming. Pictures attached of Legg meadow crib and Wood crib, both good barbel and salmon pools.

Lots of barbel and chub coming from Wyebank. Conditions pretty near perfect, low water and plenty of oxygen. Bottom pool as usual but also barbel and chub throughout the streamy water too. Barbel have increased in average size from the tiny juveniles of 2 years ago and smaller fish seem to be averaging around 3.5lbs, bigger ones around 8lbs in weight and no doubt the usual 10/11 pounder is lurking in there somewhere. Cooler cloudy conditions most peaceful, sun and hot weather has brought a lot of people to the river bank in Lower Lydbrook, paddling and swimming unfortunately. Late morning and to later afternoon is worse at weekends. Early morning and evenings is best for fishing but public disturbance does not appear to affect the fish.
Courtfield is a bit slow and as I have written previously it is worth targetting the bottom stretch below the metal steps/ privatelodge, where there are lots of fish downstream. Legg meadow remains a good place to fish but you need extendable handled landing nets and plenty of constant ground bait. Wood stretch ditto. Low fishing pressure is allowing regowth of bankside plants so take clippers etc. and remember the bank spike and rope for more difficult places.

If you are fishing Courtfield check out the swims along Legg meadow when high water. Park on verge before gate and room for one car in gate entrance. Park at beech tree bottom end Legg meadow for the last double swim at end of meadow and for swims through the wood and the wood crib. Park on verge opposite the entrance to the entrance to Waterscross farm for bottom end of wood. Be prepared to explore a bit, there are good low water swims bottom end of wood. All swims need back up gear of bank spikes and ropes. Secateurs are useful. Extending long handled landing nets vital. Come prepared. This page is linked from WUF wyebank and courtfield booking pages.
Bottom end of Courtfield below metal steps has best access to the water's edge and lots of fish!!

First day tomorrow! Bring plenty of ground bait to get fish feeding at the start of the season. Swim feeders still remain the best barbel method. Be ready to give the chub a go if barbel unresponsive. Bring plenty of bait alternatives. Gets costly but the opportunity to change hook bait is always a good strategy. High sunlight set to diminish over coming days which should help.
GOOD LUCK ALL

Here are some reminders for fishermen to Courtfield and Wyebank fisheries.
Fishing Courtfield make sure you bring bank skewers/pegs and ropes for sections of high and slippery banks and most of all EXTENDABLE long handled landing nets are vital. Nine swims in Legg meadow are accessible from Severn Trent pumping station gate at top end (the top swim by ST fence not available). The path continues to the ninth swim. Two side by side swims towards bottom end of meadow accessible from footpath starting at car pull in by big beech tree (parking for wood stretch).
PARKING for top end on mown grass of road verge and in front of gate (now left open).
Parking for Boat Pool and swims on down (below house) at start of green track end of pavement (please leave space for walkers to get by cars.
The bottom end below metal steps is full of chub, with shoals of smaller chub showing and big chub feeding off the surface today.

WYEBANK is accessible again throughout its length from footpath.
Parking in riverside car park or The bottom pool and all fast runs likely to be good for barbel and chub and likely to produce best catches. Vary techniques to get to bigger fish. Chub 4/5 and 6lbs around.top end of bank (contact me first for parking on bank). Wyebank remains a top Wye destination for barbel and chub due to the fast flowing oxygenated water and salmon pools and lies. 07598122008.

The river is below summer level, clarity remains good. It is quiet from other river users early - mid morning and evenings but can get very busy on hot sunny days. Fish don't seem bothered.

The river conditions on Wyebank for chub fishing and some early season barbel are now superb. Lovely flow and clear water for trotting and trolling meat. Best swims for chub, fishing from the steps, wyebank crib, bottom pool.
