We're family friendly, teaching students aged 6 to adult. Instructor - Mr Ken Penman. Cinderford Tae Kwon-Do was opened by husband and wife team, Kenneth Penman & Melinda Shaw-Penman in June 2009. Ken is 2nd Dan Instructor, and Mel is 3rd Dan Co-Instructor. We’re both fully insured with enhanced DBS certifications, and First Aid, Safeguarding and SEND Inclusion qualifications. We have 42 years of

Tae Kwon-Do experience between us. We’re a family run, family friendly club; our adult-sized children, Anwen, Rhiannon and Thomas are also Black Belts, training since 2004, and are involved in helping out at our clubs (when time allows), and our youngest, Seren, started training at the age of nearly 3 in 2011, became a Black Belt in 2019. This week's 'What's Your Why?' is from a young lady who joined us just a year ago from The Philippines...

At first, I was really shy! But then, days later, I became close to almost everyone! they all are very friendly! I never thought I'd be this confident! Thanks to everyone! I became confident and more stronger! Though, I can't really do sparring! I did do taekwondo back then at the Philippines! But we have these called Kyorugi - for peoples who do sparrings!
Poomsae - for people who only do performings!
Well I only do performings at Philippines so I'm not used to sparrings!

I'll tell you! I learned much more in Cinderford Tae Kwon-Do! They taught me more techniques! I became stronger!

They sometimes make trainings more fun! It's like playing a game! But with more power or energy and confidence!

Don't be vulnerable!

I learned, self confidence and self defense!

Mr and Mrs P, made everyone feel welcome!

Everyone is very friendly! Especially the older ones!

No need to be scared when making a mistake! They help you understand what to do!

Fear isn't the answer! Confidence is!

Why did you start Tae Kwon-Do?
I started Tae Kwon-Do because my head teacher knew I was struggling with my ADHD and said Cinderford TKD would help me focus and feel included.

What do you get out of training?
After training I feel really calm and focused. The next day I usually have a really good day.

How is Tae Kwon-Do helping you?
It’s helping me concentrate more, not just in Tae Kwon-Do but in school too. I’m doing better in both.

What is your ultimate goal?
My goal is to become a black belt and then be an instructor so I can help other kids like me.

This week's 'What's Your Why?' is from a young lady who started her Tae Kwon-Do journey in 2010, dropped out due to GCSEs, and is now back with a vengeance 😁🥋...

My parents signed me up for Tae Kwon-Do at a very young age, trying to encourage me to do different after school activities. After trying and quitting multiple hobbies, this special martial art stuck with me and was by far my favourite! (still is now!!!)

Training brings me a sense of self accomplishment. Trying new things and also being good and perfecting others. In my opinion it is the best feeling in the world. During lessons, seeing lower grades and the younger students try and learn things from you is an indescribable experience as well.

On days where I don’t have the motivation for anything, knowing I have a lesson that day is like the light at the end of the tunnel.
After not training for 5 years, going to lessons and getting my fitness back to where it was is the greatest motivation I could ever want.

My goal is definitely getting my stamina and fitness back, and eventually grade for my 2nd Dan. I hope to be an inspiration to the club and to the students.

This week's 'What's Your Why?' is from a young man who started Tae Kwon-Do because his sister was doing it and he wanted to know more...

I first joined taekwondo when I was 10 simply because I had family already doing it. And, to be honest, I was a little jealous of them. It feels strange to think that a big part of the past few years of my life was decided by a simple coincidence.

Overall Taekwondo improves both by physical and mental health through helping me stay fit and make new friends. Sparring always helps me to decompress. Not to mention that I'm learning lifelong skills to help me feel safe and in control.

I really enjoy Taekwondo and looking back I am so proud of how far I've come. I've made so many friends who still support me both inside and outside of Taekwondo and, looking forward I hope to stay in the club for much longer.
