Another great evening with the SBSM gym community last week! 💪

We were lucky to welcome Jeni Crane from Jeni Crane , who came along to chat to our members about nutrition and how to fuel the hard work we put in at the gym. 🥑🥗🥩

Jeni’s presentations are always fun, interesting and packed full of knowledge bombs — and this one was no exception! 💥

But beyond the nutrition tips, it’s always brilliant to bring the SBSM community together to learn something new.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and a big thank you to Jeni for sharing her expertise.

What an evening! 🍸🎉🍾👰‍♀️

Lovely Louisa’s upcoming nuptials were a great excuse for a SBSM night out (as if we needed one)!

So much joy, laughter and friendship. Grateful as ever for the wonderful SBSM community. ☺️

Big wins, little wins, ALL the wins!

OK, so ‘wins of the week’ has definitely become ‘wins of the month’ (or more!) but this board still fills us with joy!

Because it is a reflection of what SBSM is all about:

Strength training for ALL levels, for ALL women at ALL stages of life.

Yes, we celebrate the big PBs. The heavier lifts. The extra reps. The achievements that make you stop and go ‘wow’!

But we equally celebrate the quieter wins - your first proper squat, nailing a kettlebell swing, getting back to the gym post injury or illness or simply turning up when you didn’t feel like it!

At SBSM we are all about supporting each other, celebrating the wins and creating a community of strong, confident women! 💪

Some very limited spaces are now available to start your SBSM journey mid-September - message for more info!

One of the questions we are asked most often is what ‘classes’ we offer at SBSM.

The answer? We don’t offer ‘classes’. We offer carefully programmed strength training sessions, in small groups of 6.

And yes, there is a difference:

Many exercise classes prioritise movement, fitness and enjoyment. Strength training prioritises getting stronger over time.

Exercise classes often include a lot of variety. Strength training sessions repeat key movements week on week, so that you can develop technique and see improvement over time.

In exercise classes you tend to work at the same pace/level every time you attend. Strength training sessions gradually increase the level of challenge, in a structured way - more reps, heavier weights, better control (a concept known as progressive overload).

At SBSM our ladies track those stats week to week so that they can see their progress over time.

Exercise classes are often designed so that everyone completes the same workout. Strength training sessions are tailored to the individual’s strength, ability, injuries and mobility limitations.

Both 100% serve a purpose. But, if your goal is to get stronger, maintain/build muscle mass and benefit from the well-established health benefits of strength training, you’ll get the best results from following a progressive strength training program, ideally training two or three times weekly. That is exactly what we offer at SBSM.

Any questions? Get in touch - we’re always happy to help!

You can build strength AND have fun? Who’d have thought it?

These lovely words just showcase everything we love about our gym community - women getting strong together, and having a blast doing it.

When you’ve had a rubbish night's sleep, or your hormones are playing havoc, or work is stressful, or there’s family drama…

The last thing you need is your training piling on additional pressure.

It’s why we hate the phrase ‘go hard or go home’, because it’s rarely what anyone actually needs.

When life is doing what life does, it’s easy to think:

‘There’s no point going if I can’t smash my session’ or ‘I’m too tired to train like I usually would’.

But in our view, that's when it’s more important than ever to do something.

Building the routine and the habit of moving your body regularly can’t happen if you only show up for yourself when you’re feeling amazing - because how often does life let that happen?

💪Take more rest
💪Do fewer reps
💪Use a lighter weight
💪Do what you can do
💪Show up anyway and let your community support you.

Often, you’ll leave feeling better than when you walked in, and if you don’t, at least you did something for yourself today. Just something.

We were delighted to receive this feedback from one of our newest members. At SBSM we recognise that joining a new gym and learning new skills can be daunting, to say the least. Making sure that you feel safe and supported in our group sessions is really important to us. Which is why you might sometimes find an extra coach in the gym offering our beginners some 1:1 support.

The waiting list to join our next member intake in September 2026 is now open. Please send us a message or comment ‘info please’ to sign up.

Some women avoid gyms because they worry coaches will be intimidating, judgy… or won’t understand the midlife brain fog, memory lapses, and “why did I walk into this room again?” moments.

Not at SBSM 😅

Meet Sophie — 10 years as a PT, highly qualified kettlebell coach, former commercial disputes lawyer… and apparently still capable of absolute howlers 🤦🏼‍♀️

Here is a still from a video of Sophie attempting banded chin-ups in a new gym. Convinced the bar “didn’t allow” for an underhand grip, she moved to a neutral grip, then struggled because there was “nowhere for her head to go” 😂

Two days later, rewatching the video, she realised the problem wasn’t the bar…

Can YOU spot it? 👀

So if your brain sometimes feels like it’s been replaced with cotton wool and your train of thought keeps missing the station 🚂 — you’ll fit right in at SBSM. Zero judgment, lots of laughs, and women who get it! 😂
