🍃 Sowing Seeds – helping the next generation connect with nature

Every year, thousands of school children visit us and we see first-hand the difference that spending time outdoors can make.

We'd love for you to join us for Sowing Seeds – a day of inspiring talks, ideas and discussion about engaging the next generation with nature.

Whether you work in education, conservation, youth work or simply have an interest in connecting young people with the outdoors, we'd love to welcome you.

Please be aware that the ‘snow’ gates are still closed and we are still limiting vehicle access across the Long Mynd until further notice. The fire risk is still very high and this measure is to protect livestock, livelihoods, wildlife and the local community.

We apologies for the inconvenience but this will hopefully only be for a temporary period of time.

Please help to prevent wildfires by following these tips if you are visiting the countryside.
1) Call 999 immediately if you see any signs of fire.
2) Leave the BBQ at home and don’t light campfires or gas stoves. They’re not permitted in open countryside across the Shropshire Hills.
3) Don’t smoke on the hills.
4) Take all your rubbish home with you.
5) Camping and over night stays are not allowed on the Long Mynd
5) Spread the word not a fire. Share this with anyone you know who is heading out to the countryside and encourage them to leave anything that creates a spark or flames at home.

Please do everything you can to protect people and wildlife in these hot and dry conditions.

We're delighted to announce that the Shropshire Hills has been awarded £993,475 in development funding through Landscape Connections, a initiative made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to develop an ambitious project that will bring together farmers, communities and young people to improve habitats, strengthen ecological networks and help more people connect with nature and heritage in the Shropshire Hills.

Protected Landscapes across the UK are facing increasing challenges, including wildfires, habitat loss and the impacts of climate change. Landscape Connections is supporting five projects across the country with over £5 million in development funding, with the potential for a further £42.6 million in delivery grants to help protect these special places for future generations.

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK's heritage. Landscape Connections is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We look forward to sharing more about the project as it develops and working with partners and local communities to help care for the Shropshire Hills for generations to come.

Tune in to BBC Midlands Today at 6.30pm. Ranger Patrick and Dave and Tom from Longmynd Commoners Association are talking about the devastating impact of wildfires on the Long Mynd.

After Sunday’s wildfire, and for everyone’s safety, the snow gates (which need a rebrand!) will be closed until the risk of wildfire is reduced. Please don’t BBQ on the hill or use any type of naked flame. If you see a wildfire, please call 999 straight away.

Jinlye Meadows is now a thriving species-rich grassland, buzzing with pollinators and insects. Thanks to a diverse mix of wildflowers providing nectar throughout the season, even the rare bilberry bumblebee is making a comeback 💛🐝
