Merry Christmas from all at Church Stretton Tennis Club 🎾🌲
It's been an incredible year for us, with beautiful 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀, outstanding 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 and one of our mixed doubles teams 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲!!!
Many of our members play throughout the winter, making the most of the daylight and practicing for next season. If you feel like tennis is something you'd like to take up, or 'keeping active' is high on your New Year's Resolution list then why not come along to social tennis every 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 @ 𝟭𝟬𝗮𝗺

Saturday was such a great official launch event for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Church Stretton Tennis Club and all the volunteers who got to meet The Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, her Deputy Jo Baugh, Stuart Anderson MP & our Mayor Andy Munro to celebrate our new tennis courts and to thank those who made it happen 👏👏👏

The squally showers didn't stop the official opening of the Tennis Courts today, 4th October in Sandford Avenue Park.

Lord Lieutenant Anna Turner JP, the LTA & Church Stretton Tennis Club and many volunteers from the town, met to celebrate the opening of the refurbished tennis courts.

The beautiful new tennis courts in Sandford Avenue Park are now open.

The new online booking system, linked to our new electronic gate, is not yet fully operational and may take another 1-2 weeks.

Until this is operational, tennis is FREE 🎾🎾🎾

They are available for play Monday to Friday, (8am-4pm) by asking the Council Outdoor team to open the courts for you.

On Saturday mornings at 10am, the Club will open the courts for Public Play until 1pm when the Club runs coaching sessions.

Our Coaching provider WeDoTennis have agreed that anyone can attend our coaching sessions tomorrow (Saturday) for FREE this week. Adult session is 1-2pm, Juniors (from 6 years old) is 2-3pm. Please message us if you’d like to attend, so that we have an idea of numbers 😉

Wimbledon starts today!! 🎾🎾 With Britain's favourite tennis competition underway, why not take up tennis yourself? The pros make it looks easy, and at Church Stretton Tennis Club we offer social play, coaching and competitive matches against other Shropshire clubs - all ages/abilities welcome 😉 You could discover (or reinspire) your love for the game on our brand new tennis courts this summer ☀️🎾 Message us to get involved 👍

For anyone who has walked through Sandford Avenue Park recently, it would be hard to miss the new tennis courts with the amazing blue & green paint finish. Getting the courts resurfaced was a tough job. We were fortunate to have the support of Shropshire Tennis, Shropshire Council, WeDoTennis and club volunteers. The situation looked bleak until just before Christmas, when we heard the amazing news that the LTA were giving the Club/Town Council a grant of £55k. This is part of the Park Tennis initiative setup by UK Gov (DCMS) and the Lawn Tennis Association to encourage more people to play tennis in local parks.

As well as a new court surface, we also have an electronic gate linked to an LTA website where you can pay a small fee to play and get a code to open the gate. We’ll also be offering free weekend tennis for all residents as part of the Barclays Free Tennis weekend program. Come and join us 🎾🎾🎾

The Tennis courts in Sandford Park were dug up and drilled over a 2 week period. Last week the Lawn Tennis Association had their contractor Fosse come and resurface the courts with new tarmac as a part of the £55k grant the LTA and UK government gave Church Stretton as a part of the Park Tennis program. In 3 weeks time the courts will be painted blue & green and the lines will be applied … just in time for Wimbledon 😉 we look forward to inviting everyone in the community to come and try out the new courts at a free weekend session 🎾🎾🎾
