SEPTEMBER TOP TIPS🍂
I find this time of year is always a meaningful opportunity to refocus an intention towards yourself and carve out dedicated physical training time in your weekly diary.
Here are my recommendations to help you create a fresh schedule:
Firstly, set your intention and fill your diary/calendar with chosen workout blocks for the week ahead.
Set them to 'repeat every week'.🗓️
Walk • Strengthen • Stretch• Balance
Get outside and WALK EVERY DAY🌿
Mood follows action. Even if it's 10 minutes, this is a non negotiable. Walking will lift your mood, relax your body and help you process your thoughts. Even if it means getting up half an hour earlier, please walk first thing to start your day with a clear head and calm body. The reward lies in the positive impact this will have on your mood and productivity throughout the day ahead.
STRENGTH TRAINING💪🏼 - minimum twice a week.
Increased muscle mass helps fire up the metabolism to manage body fat, plus builds physical and mental resilience.
Lifting load, be that body weight and/or weights, strengthens bones and protects against osteoporosis.
It also builds self confidence and strengthens the mind.
Do hard stuff and resist the urge to take soft options.
BE strong.
STRETCH 🙆 - mobilising your joints daily and stretching your nerves and muscles not only feels good but develops and maintains a freedom of movement, aids post-workout recovery and prevents risk of injury.
If ignored, a rigid body will compromise your quality of life further down the line. Try one of my Stretch classes to feel great.
N.B. Stretching is a priority, not an afterthought.
BALANCE🦵🏼- incorporating single leg balance work triggers deep lying muscles to fire up to execute a movement.
Not only does balance work help connect to the breath and improve mental focus, but as we age, balance becomes critical to our future safety, so practising now will pay dividends.
