GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE GETTING THEIR GCSE RESULTS TODAY!
We know a number of our students and Senpais are receiving their GCSE results today, so everyone at Shinpo Martial Arts wants to wish you the very best of luck! 🥋
Whatever is written on that piece of paper, remember that today is just one step on a much bigger journey. Be proud of the work you’ve put in, the challenges you’ve overcome and everything you’ve achieved along the way.
There’s a Japanese proverb that feels particularly fitting today, and it’s one we use a lot on the mat:
七転び八起き — Nana korobi ya oki
“Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”
Success isn’t about everything always going perfectly. It’s about continuing to move forward, whatever happens.

Here’s a picture from the 90’s when myself and my little brother both got our first Gi’s, doing our very best Karate Kid impressions.
We harassed our parents for a Gi for weeks and finally got them on Christmas morning. The funny thing is, I don’t think we went back to another Ju Jitsu class after getting those Gi’s (you know how kids can be) and it wasn’t until a few years later I rejoined and never looked back. For me, the proverb should be, fall down a million times, stand up a million and one.
Hard work and resilience is what we learn on the mat and it’s those qualities that’ll mean whatever those results say today… I know you’ll all keep moving forward.
