Finish line feels 🏁💙
I literally cannot explain the feeling of crossing that finish line, the overwhelming mix of emotions is ridiculous! A mix of pride, happiness and absolute exhaustion 🤣 A once in a lifetime experience, it still hasn’t sunk in that I actually did it and all for an amazing cause that’s so close to my heart💗 It’s easily the hardest but most incredible thing I’ve ever done, I went in thinking I wouldn’t finish with the knee injuries I had picked up through all of the training but I still did it 🙌🏼 I’ve honestly learnt I’m so much stronger and more determined than I ever thought I was, I can literally do anything I can put my mind to! Remember you can to, it’s all mind over matter 🧠💪🏼

Stretching 🙆🏻‍♀️

Stretching is sooo important, especially for myself atm cause of all the running I’m doing, but people always forget to do it 🤣 It’s recommended that you do both dynamic stretches which are more functional movements to do before your workout or static stretches which we use to relax the muscles at the end of your workout. A lot of people think it’s pointless but stretching is actually something that everyone should try to incorporate as there are sooooo many benefits;

🔸Increases flexibility and range of motion🤸🏻‍♀️ this will make movements easier and will definitely help as you age.

🔸Reduces the risk of injury ❌- a more flexible muscle is less likely to become injured.

🔸Helps to reduce DOMs and post-exercise aches- stretching loosens the muscles and reduces muscle tightness.

🔸Improves posture 🧘🏻‍♀️- Particularly stretching the back, chest and shoulders will reduce the muscle tightness that can lead to poor posture.

🔸 Reduces stress and tension- more relaxed muscles means you feel more relaxed! 🤷🏻‍♀️

🔸 Improves mechanical efficiency and overall functional performance- a more flexible joint requires less energy to go through a wider range of movement so therefore movements are more energy efficient.

🔸 Promotes circulation 🩸- stretching increases blood flow to the muscles which allows for greater oxygen and nutrient transportation.

Happy hump day lovelies🧡
A little bit of midweek motivation.💪🏼Remember we all have bad days but it’s on those bad days that it really counts. Stay with your routine, train hard and eat well, it’s amazing what a difference it will make to your mood. Good things do not come from comfort zones we have to push ourselves outside of it to really see progress. So on those bad days just remember where you want to be, think of your goal and still take the steps to reach it, even if you don’t feel like it! 💫Health and fitness isn’t easy, if it was everyone would do it.

A little clip from my blaze course at weekend🥊 lots that needs to be improved on but it will come with practice! Due to being on the course and my graduation and things, I’ve had a couple of days off training and I’ve just eaten whatever was easy so mainly takeaways lol🤣
But nor I’m ready and raring to get back to it. Just feeling a bit grim, it’s literally true that you are what you eat! Been eating rubbish so I feel rubbish🤣 However, in the past I would’ve felt so guilty and would’ve punished myself with exercise and severely cutting my cals but I’ve realised that a couple of days off won’t make that much of a difference and sometimes it’s needed! I’m just going to get back in the gym and eating sensibly so that I enjoy what I’m doing, if you’re torturing yourself with an unsustainable diet and a ridiculous amount of exercise you won’t be able to keep it up and you’re going to start to form unhealthy habits. If you restrict too much, you’re going to get cravings as you’re body isn’t getting the nutrients or cals it needs so eventually you’ll end up giving in and bingeing, this forms a vicious cycle that’s so difficult to get out of!
Instead, understand that it’s completely normal to go off track every so often, everyone does it. When you do just remember life is to be enjoyed and fitness needs to be able to fit in with it! You can enjoy everything in moderation 🙌🏼

Methods of tracking progress without the scales ⚖️❌

So many people get caught up with weighing themselves and the number on the screen! However this can become an unhealthy thing, it is important to remember that so many things can cause our weight to fluctuate such as fluid and food intake, water retention or even needing to go to the toilet. Lots of people, particularly when trying to lose weight, can feel disheartened if they don’t see a change on the scale but it’s so important to remember why this may be the case! Another problem with using a scale as the only method to track your progress is that most scales don’t differentiate between fat loss and muscle loss, which is an important factor in measuring health, severe weight loss through a too large calorie deficit can result in the loss of muscle as well as fat.🤷🏻‍♀️
This is why it’s important to use other methods of tracking your progress such as:

🔸Taking measurements 📏- use a tape measure to measure around different parts of the body such as the hips, waist, arms and thighs etc.

🔸 Tracking strength progression 💪🏼- note down how much you’re lifting each week and if you’re using progressive overload you should be increasing this weight gradually, you can see how strong you’ve become!

🔸 Progress photos 📸- take photos of yourself weekly. Make sure this is around the same time of day and in the same lighting. You’ll be able to see the changes to your body!

🔸 How do your clothes fit?👗👕- have your clothes become looser or tighter? (depending on your goal.) Can you fit into clothes you used to wear or are you a new clothing size?

🔸 Consider how you feel📝- you could write down how you’re feeling each week! Or you might just reflect every so often, do you feel fitter? Can you keep up with the kids more or do you find it easier to get up the stairs?

Pleeeassseeee remember that you are more than just a tiny number on a scale! It does not define your value 🧡 Just making healthier changes to your life is progress enough!

Graduation 👩🏻‍🎓 💫

I’ve had the most wonderful day! I Graduated from Edge Hill University with a degree in primary science education.
I cannot explain how proud of myself I am, it has been the most difficult three years of my life. Between assignments, mental health issues, a global pandemic and a complete career change , I honestly didn’t think this day would come at some points. I had moments where I was so close to quitting,especially after I decided teaching wasn’t for me but I’m was soo determined to not let all my hard work go to waste. However I don’t have any regrets, if I hadn’t gone to uni I may not be where I am now! Teaching is always something I can go back to use and the skills I’ve gained are transferable to all parts of my life.
Feel like all my hard work was worth it 💫 so excited for the next chapter ###

How to tackle Gym anxiety 😱🧡

Finally out of isolation so I’ll soon be heading back to the gym and ngl I’m feeling excited but a bit nervous to get back to it! It’s only been about 9 days but it can be quite intimidating going back into that environment that’s full of people, especially when you’ve got used to home workouts. So it got me thinking about the fact this is something that can affect a lot of people, especially when you’re just starting out. So thought I’d share some tips on how to ease your nerves a little;

🔸Have a set program/routine - not only is this the best way to see progress, it will help you feel more confident. You’ll know exactly what machines and equipment you’ll need to use and you can get straight to it, rather than just wandering aimlessly.

🔸Get yourself a gym buddy- find a friend, family member or anyone that is willing to go to the gym with you! Having someone with you will make it a lot less intimidating.

🔸Put in your headphones- I feel soooo much better when I’m listening to music, can just block out the whole world and get in the zone💪🏼.

🔸Ease yourself into it- whether it’s your first time or you’re just getting back to it, think about what weights and exercises you can do safely! This means you can do them with correct form.

🔸 Do exercise you enjoy- Find the exercise and training that you enjoy the most so that you can look forward to doing it! If you don’t enjoy it, it’ll make your anxiety 10x worse!

🔸 Be kind to yourself and remember everyone is there for the same reason - as hard as it is try not to compare yourself to others! Everyone is at a different point in their fitness journey and everyone was a beginner once. You may feel like people are watching you but in all honesty they’re too busy doing their own thing🤣 Everyone is at the gym for the same reason, to better themselves. 🙌🏼

Hope these help you feel a little less worried next time you go to the gym or an exercise class. Please remember that everyone has felt like this before and it is totally normal! My dm’s are always open if you just want a chat 🧡
