STOP SCROLLING

SAVE this!

IF YOU’RE ABOUT TO RUN YOUR FIRST HALF MARATHON, THIS IS FOR YOU

The hardest part isn’t the distance.
It’s believing you can do it.

Trust me on this that you are far more capable than you think.

Here are a few things I want you to remember:

✨ You don’t have to be fast.
You just have to keep going. One foot in front of the other.

✨ Don’t chase someone else’s pace.
This is YOUR race, YOUR first half and YOUR achievement.

✨ Start slower than you think you need to.
You can always pick it up later, but you can’t undo going out too fast.

✨ Fuel and hydrate.
Your body needs the energy to keep going, so don’t wait until you’re completely empty.

✨ Break it down.
Don’t think about 21.1km. Think about the km you are in, the next km, the next landmark.

✨ There will be a moment when it feels hard.
That doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It means you’re running a half marathon!

✨ Trust the training you’ve put in.
Every run, every early morning, every time you got out the door when you didn’t feel like it has brought you here.

Then when it gets tough, remind yourself:

You are more capable than you think.
You don’t have to be fast.
You just have to keep going.

One step at a time, you’ll find yourself crossing that finish line.

That feeling… it’s a feeling you’ll never forget it.

GO SHOW YOURSELF WHAT YOU’RE CAPABLE OF. 🏅

5 THINGS TO AVOID AFTER A RUN

1️⃣Don’t sit down right away.

Walk it out for 5-10 minutes first. Stopping cold turkey leads to stiffness, dizziness, and worse soreness later.

2️⃣Don’t ignore protein.

20-40g within a couple hours kickstarts muscle repair and speeds up recovery. Most people skip this completely. If you can’t eat straight after running then hydrating on chocolate milk is perfect - great balance of protein and carbs to support recovery.

3️⃣Don’t stay in sweaty clothes.

Shower and change as soon as you can. Cuts down on chafing, skin irritation, getting cold and that drained feeling that lingers all day.

4️⃣Don’t reward yourself with a binge.

A 3 mile run burns way less than people think. One
“earned” meal can wipe out the entire deficit. Smashing the workouts then smash the nutrition too.

5️⃣Don’t forget to hydrate.

Even mild dehydration tanks recovery, energy, and tomorrow’s performance.

Most runners only focus on the run. The ones who improve fastest focus on the recovery and nutrition too!

We’ve all read the advice, yet on race week, the panic and adrenaline setting in makes us do funny things.

Here is what to actually do instead:

1️⃣The Night-Before Carb Load 🍝
The Mistake: Eating a massive bowl of heavy pasta only the night before.
The Fix: Real carb loading starts 48 hours out. Focus on simple, low-fibre carbs, lower fat intake, and stay hydrated so your tank is full without feeling sluggish.

2️⃣Panic Training Instead of Tapering 🧘🏽‍♀️
The Mistake: Cramming one last hard long run into race week or catching up on missed training.
The Fix: Tapering is where your body actually rebuilds. Keep workouts short, focus on mobility, and trust the training you’ve already completed.

3️⃣Skipping On-Course Fuel ⛽️
The Mistake: Thinking you can finish 21.1km well without eating.
The Fix: Running longer than 90 minutes without carbohydrates leads straight to hitting the wall. Train your gut in long runs to take gels or fuel during the race.

4️⃣The Fast Start 🏁
The Mistake: Letting adrenaline pull you into a sprint during KM 1.
The Fix: Start 15–30 seconds slower than your goal pace. Navigating early crowds burns excess energy, save that power for the final 5km!

5️⃣Race Day Experiments 🧪
The Mistake: Wearing brand-new shoes , socks or shorts, testing new gels bought at the Expo.
The Fix: Strictly nothing new on race day. Stick to the gear, socks, fueling, and breakfast routines you tested in training.

Which mistake are you most guilty of? 💭

What race do you have coming up? Anyone doing Or ?

BEACH YOGA AND ROAD TENNIS: A DREAMY WELLNESS ESCAPE IN BARBADOS

I was thrilled to be asked to contribute in The Standard in their recent travel lifestyle article following my trip to Barbados.

Thank you Ashleigh Arnott for consultinfor this article. There are so many feel-good activities that offer a new way to experience Barbados. When the landscape looks this good, it’d be rude not to go outside and enjoy it. Between its stunning beaches, lush gullies, rolling hills and rugged east-coast landscapes, Barbados is a haven for outdoor activities that support the mind, body and soul.

I was lucky enough to do a horse ride on the beach and enjoy oceanside yoga
“The most relaxing activity I’ve done in Barbados was a combination of beach yoga and horse riding with Barbados Equestrian Experience. Starting the morning with a yoga session by the ocean helped me slow down and clear my mind, and riding a horse through the shallow water as the waves gently rolled in felt like something out of a movie.” — Sarah Campus | Women’s Personal Trainer is a wellness expert and founder of ldnmumsfitness . She recently returned from an extended trip to Barbados

Last week I was excited to join on air to talk all things September Rest.

THINK RESET NOT RESTRICTION!

I was chatting about getting back into a routine after the summer holidays, and how to make that reset feel realistic rather than overwhelming.

My biggest message? You don’t need to overhaul your entire life in September.

✨ Start small
🏃‍♀️ Get moving, even if you only have 20 minutes
🫶🏻 Be consistent
🥗 Get back to balanced, nutritious meals
💧 Prioritise hydration
😴 Get your sleep routine back on track
📅 Actually schedule time for yourself

For busy parents especially, September can feel like a fresh start, but don’t put yourself back at the bottom of the list.

Think reset, not restriction.
