Everyone at Chirnside Bowling Club send condolences to Brian's family at this sad time.
Brian Holloway.
We are very saddened to have to pass on the awful news that Brian Holloway passed away peacefully earlier today.
Brian was renowned for being one of the best bowlers in the Borders and Northumberland but that was only a small part of what Brian meant to the bowling club and community around him.
For many years Brian coached youngsters that came to the club looking to play the sport and many continue to play to this day and owe their success to the fantastic coaching given by Brian.
Up until just before lockdown in 2020 if you came down to the club on any given morning, you would find Brian and his brother Ian plus a great team of members working on the green. Brian took his green work very seriously indeed and helped prepare some of the best playing surfaces around.
Every Sunday afternoon would find Brian in the club holding court with stories of games gone by and never one to boast of his achievements, of which there were many would often poke fun at himself and Brian being the mischievous person he was would always poke fun at others too!! A proper worky ticket but it was always done with a glint in his eye and a wink to those around him.
Brian represented the club at all levels and won numerous competitions, he was club champion on 4 occasions and was the first member to win the prestigious Oubridge cup for Tweedmouth. In latter years a dream came true for him when he qualified with the senior rink for the National finals at Ayr.
The club and all members will miss him tremendously.
Our thoughts go out to all his family at this sad time.
