It would be good to write that the team got a result at Oulton Park but sadly that was not the case, After a blown motor and then a trapped fuel line Simon and Jed had to start from the back of the grid for Monday's race so it was a case of all to do, coupled to that Simon said the spare motor was not as quick as the other one. When the lights went out the task in front of them was big as there were 30 sidecars on the grid and the famous Gilbert start was not easily executed but by the end of lap one they had made up six places and by lap three it was seven but that was as far as it went. Simon had lost all the feeling in his arms and was forced to pull in from what was starting to look like a points scoring round. Thankfully this was only a one race round and we saw last year that Simon doesn't know the meaning of the word can't so we have certainly got a lot better to come from him and Jed.

Simon and Jed are last out today however just to make sure they don’t get a lie in they have the first warmup this morning at 8:30!

Sadly not the best of starts to the year again as after waiting all day to get out on the track on Saturday Simon and Jed had to use Simon's words a "technical issue when the righthand piston decide to kiss the spark plug" and the rod also tried to escape through the crankcases. After spending Sunday changing the motor and then waiting until the end of the day to go out for qualifying the gremlins had another surprise waiting for the draperRacing sidecar crew when they got as far as Cascades before a broken fuel pipe put them out. On replacing the fairing the fuel line had been snagged and was trapped on the chain and severed. This all means that for the second year on the bounce they will start their season on the last position on the grid so be prepared for some hard charging as Simon fires it off the line for one of his customary charges through the field.

This year draperRacing is a lot more slimline and will be turning its support to the world of sidecar racing as the main sponsors of Simon Gilbert and Jed Pilmoor-Brady as they tackle the British Sidecar Championship, Jack Tritton who successfully partnered Simon last year is taking a year out to concentrate on his kart racing.
It has been a long winter but the wait is now over for the sidecar racing fans as round two of the British Superbike Championships head for Oulton Park this Bank Holiday and include the first round of the sidecar championship. This weekend Simon put the sidecar through its paces with James Neave in the chair at a very wet and windy Oulton Park but with next weekend coming up he pulled out of one race while closing in on second. Simon is renowned for his fast starts and with the new 600cc engine this year and a totally new sidecar to him hopefully he can go into the 2019 championship minus the problems that ruined some good rides last year. Thankfully the weather forecast is much better than they have had to put up with at Oulton Park this weekend which was held in heavy rain and high winds! Whatever the weather one thing we can be sure of is that the sidecars will provide some great racing so see you there!

draperRacing recently supported the Stroke Association's fundraiser at Castle Combe where a host of sports cars were giving taxi rides to the generous public. Paul and Bill took turns in taking passengers for their five laps of Castle Combe in Paul's Radical car, powered by a Suzuki Hayabusa engine. Also there was Justin in his Fisher Fury, Martin in his BMW and Noel took the wheel of Paul's Audi RS6 when Paul wasn't in it Steve could be seen thrashing his ancient Ford Cortina around and there is one lone shot of Neil in his red Porsche. There are a few other cars in this album but I have to admit I have no idea who they are. It goes without saying that as this is a draperRacing album the draperRacing Radical gets the lions share although you will spot a couple of others here as well. An enjoyable day but also a freezing cold day as well.

Today summer finally came to an end as a cold front swept in from the north last night and we woke to ice on our cars as draperRacing headed for Castle Combe in Wiltshire to support the Stroke Association's fundraiser along with many others by giving taxi rides to those brave enough to sit alongside the drivers. Our team was led by the "Boss", Paul Draper and Bill Philp. Paul and Bill took it in turns to drive the draperRacing Radical car and it should be mention that the rumours that Bill not only ran out of fuel but spun out twice cannot be denied!!
