Just two days to go until race day! This Race Briefing has been sent out to all participants:
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the Chippenham Harriers River Run on Wednesday 1 July.
This email will serve as a race briefing for both events so that we can be sure that you are fully updated before the races begin.
The 2k Fun Run will start at 6.30 pm and the River Run 5k will start at 7.30 pm.
We are very happy to welcome back DB Max to chip time both the events. The numbers for both races will be available to collect from a gazebo at the race start. The location will be indicated by arrows showing Registration. Unfortunately there will be no on the day entries for either race as we have sold out. Please collect the 2k numbers by 6.10 pm at the very latest and the 5k numbers by 7.10 pm at the latest. There will be a race briefing before each event.
This event has been approved, insured and licenced by the ARC (race permit 26/0579). We also have Chippenham Council and Wiltshire Council’s consent to use their park and roads.
There is plenty of parking close to the Olympiad (the Sadlers Mead multi storey car park is the closest, but Borough Parade and Market car parks are also within easy walking distance).
Under no circumstances should you swap your number or give your place to another participant.
Parents or guardians are permitted to run in the Fun Run with the smaller children. If you wish to do this, please do not put on a race number and do not cross the finish line. Both races will have two tail runners/walkers so no one will be left behind.
There will be plenty of room for spectators along the course. Monkton Park is a public area and so please be respectful to other members of the public who are using the park during the race.
Please remember that headphones/earphones must not be used during the race or briefings. Anyone seen wearing them during the race will be disqualified.
We have marshals all along the course of both the 2k and 5k races. For the 5k race they will guide you over the road crossings but are not permitted to stop traffic. Please be aware of vehicles before crossing roads and give way to them and we would advise running on pavements where possible.
Both races are mixed terrain with a variety of surfaces including grass, gravel and tarmac. We will endeavour to mark any obstructions with tape or cones but please be aware of your surroundings as you run, especially when the route changes from one type of terrain to another. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted to race with the runners. They are however very welcome in the park.
We would recommend that runners bring their own water but we will be offering water at the end of the race that runners can help themselves to. We will monitor the weather this week and if the day is hotter than predicted we will have some water available at the halway point.
After the races please proceed along the finish funnel and our marshals will indicate where you can collect your water and tech T shirt (or medal for the Fun Run). Please can you also un-pin and return your race number at the end of the race. Please can parents or guardians help the 2k runners take off their numbers when they finish the race.
We will try and present the trophies for the 2k Fun Run before the start of the River Run. The presentation of trophies for the River Run 5k will take place once the last runner is back in.
The results will be available to see on DB Max’s website https://dbmax.co.uk shortly after the last runner completes the course in each race. Results will be available on the Chippenham Harriers website and on the River Run page as soon as possible following the event.
Photography will take place at this event. Any individual has the right to request images of themselves be removed from event media across all channels and we will do this as soon as possible following the request.
The River Run 5k is the culmination of the popular Chippenham Harriers Beginners Programme and we will have more than 60 “graduates” taking part. We wish them the best of luck on their first 5k race!
The Tenth Hole Tea Rooms in Monkton Park is staying open especially for our event so please pop in for pre or post race refreshments! There will also be an ice cream van on site, payable by cash or card.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the River Run on Wednesday and hope that you have a great race and an enjoyable evening with us in Chippenham.
See you in two day’s time!
