Do you suffer from PF?

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick band of tissue (also called a fascia) at the bottom of your foot that runs from your heel to your toes. Your fascia supports the muscles and arch of your foot. When it’s overly stretched, you can get tiny tears in its surface. This can bring on pain and inflammation.

Route40 graduated compression socks could help you recover from Plantar Fasciitis as the increased pressure around the heel and arch allows for greater blood flow.

Today I want to talk about socks. Not the run of the mill, day to day sock. The anatomically correct, comfy as can be running sock. I’m quite fussy about my running socks, so I was keen when Kate from offered to send me a pair of hers to try out. Route40 is a small business and I’m a believer in supporting small businesses. She sent me a free pair, and I promised an honest review in return.

First impressions were good. I was a bit confused by the ‘L’s printed on both socks. I normally wear hilly’s or Nikes and both of these have an L and an R. A quick message to Kate confirmed they were L for large. They are still anatomically correct. You just use the logo to denote right and left.

About that logo. I was initially concerned about it. It’s quite a heavy duty piece of embroidery, and I thought it might cause friction. The last thing anyone needs is an unnecessary cause of chafing. My fears were soon dispelled though. I wore these for multiple runs. Urban, trail, long distance, with no issues at all. In fact, I really loved them. I ran across the forth road bridge when it was a bit breezy, but they were snug. I wore them for a trail run up and over Arthur’s seat, splashing in the mud, and they washed out just fine. Wore them for a long run in the Cairngorms with no chafing or blisters. They provide a bit of compression support without being too tight. Just spot on.

So if you are looking for a new running sock, give them a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

It's Monday! But don't worry, it's nothing a good run can't fix 😃

Most compression socks compress at the same rate across the leg and foot. This can actually be counterproductive, possibly trapping blood and lactic acid in the lower leg.

By gradually easing the compression upwards to the top of the sock and knees, the circulation is encouraged upwards towards the heart and away from the legs. This is particularly useful during exercise, as well as for recovery 💪

We asked Dave Taylor, elite fell runner and mountain guide to review our socks and here it is!

"I found them very comfortable, the flat toe seam prevents rubbing and the anatomical shape means that the socks hug your feet so there is less likelihood of your foot sliding around in the sock."

Thank you for a great review!

"So I tried out these new running socks last few runs from I suffer badly with my socks even on short runs, they move about, or I get blisters. However I have done 13 miles in these and they are great. So comfy… fab colour… actually stay in place. It’s not often I will recommend stuff but these are ace… there is also something really cool about orange & pink together 🙋🏻‍♀️"
