INTENT

4 weeks on from my first 100 miler

Bit of a weird one really, don’t worry it’s not a sob story.

When you do a new distance that’s about 50% more than you’ve done before it can bring some reservations and fear, we all get this and with most things this happens prior, but once you start you just get on with it.

In all honesty I had a great race and really enjoyed it, nothing really went wrong.

👆🏻(this rarely happens in ultras)👆🏻

But a few days after the race when reflecting on how well the race went, I remembered i just stuck to the plan and done what was asked, no deviating thinking I know more.

What was asked of me👇🏻

-The recces
-The back to back days
-The smaller races that were training runs

And most importantly, good consistent training alongside a good plan.

A good plan executed well will always deliver good results, even a poor plan that’s executed well will deliver results.

With training there has to be intent and effort.

Anyways, some Saturday boring thoughts.

Beard looks decent, I must admit.

Enjoy the sun 🌞

Say hello to our new family member

Tin Tin

We’ve always wanted to adopt/rescue, but it’s never been the right situation for us or Basil.

Not this time, she’s been introduced in a nice gradual way, now I have two thick thieves.

Originally born in Ethiopia and she’s saluki/corgi/lab.

She’s settled in so well and basil loves her already.

Getting people to slow down when they need it most, its one of the hardest jobs of a coach.

I know people really struggle with this bit, but if we learn to embrace this period, it can help ensure we’re ready to push when the time is right.

Also a couple weeks at a lower intensity isn’t that big in the grand scheme of things.

George smashing the South Downs 50k

Been working with George a few months now and it’s been great guiding him back to some consistent running, giving him the sessions his body needs to get back some fitness.

When we return back to exercise a lot of us fall for the “what we used to do” trap.

But you have to accept you’re probably at a different point in your life and potentially have a different environment too, and may have lost some fitness, so it’s critical we build properly again.

This is where having a coach to lean on can be key, delivering the right sessions that work the sweet spot.

Often times people think coaching is all about being pushed, but a lot of the time it’s about pulling people back to stop them from doing stuff that hinders their training.

Well done to George on his training run race, next time put some sunscreen on you tit.

What a race!

The summer south Spine challenger.

111 miles along the Pennine way in 31:24, came 7th.

Paced it well which meant I could still run in the latter stages.

Ate loads, done some jungle poos, bye.

You have a Good/Bad race and to want to get back to it.

Don’t rush this process, give your body the time its needs, you’ve worked hard.

Allow it to recover properly so that when its ready you can build again, if you rush this, you are already starting on the back foot.
