Cricket had been played in Selsey before the clubs foundation and a famous incident occurred in 1647, when a fielder called Henry Brand died, after being struck on the head by a batsman trying to hit the ball a second time to avoid being out. astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, C.B.E. Si

r Patrick was a former Club Secretary, and an active playing member, and was an Honorary Life Vice President. A former President of Selsey Cricket Club was Hubert Doggart, O.B.E., MA. He was the son of the sportsman Graham Doggart who rose to chair the Football Association. Doggart represented England in two Test matches in 1950. He was President of the MCC (1981–1982), the Cricket Council (1981–1982) and the Cricket Society (1983–1998), and he chaired the Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club (1993–2003). In the 1970s he played occasionally for Selsey CC. The Pavilion has now been renamed the Sir Patrick Moore Pavilion

Unfortunately we have made the sensible decision to cancel the Smashers Sessions for tomorrow Friday 26th June along with a host of another clubs up and down the country safety and welfare is our top piriorty . Whilst it may cool down slightly tomorrow there is still an amber heat warning and after a draining week for all I think its the right option think we all need a bit of recovery time . we can make the time up on other sessions or add another date in. please spread the word around and see you next friday. stay safe in the shade, hydrate and put sun cream on.

Big Give this year has been truly fantastic and we cannot thank you enough for the generosity which you have shown over the last two weeks.

Thanks to your donations children up and down the country will be able to participate in our cricket programmes, helping them to make friends, get outdoors, and grow in confidence.

We have made the decision to cancel tomorrow’s Thursday june 25th junior cricket session. A common sense approach due to the heat it’s very uncomfortable out there and safety of all is foremost on our minds.
Fridays smashers sessions are still scheduled to go ahead but we will keep eye on the temperatures and any parents views are gratefully received if you think it may be to much for the juniors. You can contact me on [email protected]

Hope your all enjoying this glorious weather today we have a busy week ahead at Selsey Cricket Club next week😎
Thursday 25th 11 to 16s from 5pm and we may have out new toy the ball feed buddy delivered in time😇
Friday 26th week 5 of Selsey Smashers 5 to 8s from 5pm 8 to 11s from 6pm. I will be keeping eye in any hot weather notices and adhere to governing guidelines on this
Saturday 28th we will be hosting Pagham as they have a sussex league fixture
Sunday 29th we are delighted to be hosting Sussex u9s for a fixture more details to be released in the week
