Dyspraxia can really make it challenging for moving in daily life. However, research into making motor programmes, is really helping people with Dyspraxia have a greater range of movement. Golf can also be massively beneficial to motor programmes in the brain. While difficult to master, the learning process will enhance motor skills including balance and co-ordination. While looking at an Instagram video about your golf swing can seem an easy fix for your golf swing, are you actually doing more harm than good? Both golfers in this video are of a very good standard and go to the gym regularly. If you start to try this, don’t know you have a mobility issue relating to this move and injure yourself long term from this, you will go backwards in improving your golf game. People with ADHD really struggle with Rejection Sensitivity dysphoria (RSD). What the video explains really well is even the smallest negative feedback can raise RSD. If your golf coach gives you negative feedback, it will affect you, if you have ADHD. If this feels similar to the process of your golf lessons, check to see if you have ADHD and make sure you select a golf coach who sympathises with your needs.

This video shows brilliantly how a neurodiverse brain creates a lot more neural chemistry! A person who is neurodiverse has the potential to learn much more, it’s all about accessing this power! For example, somebody with Autism can greatly benefit from being given time to process and understand what has been instructed. As golf is highly technical, a golf coach must ensure that the autistic golfer can have time to process the technique that is being taught. Whenever I play with Amateur golfers, a very common thing I hear, not just from the golfer themselves but other players in the group, is ‘you did not keep your head down’ when topping a golf ball with a Iron! Unfortunately this is completely the wrong advice! What is actually happening is the angle that you come into the golf ball, is far too shallow, forcing your golf clubhead to only hit part of the golf ball. What you need to think of is getting the body weight to the front foot, on the downswing, as shown in the video. This way, the angle of attack will be much steeper. Do you find you do these behaviours in a golf lesson but thought you were the problem? Trust me, I spent years thinking my traits were an issue! It’s only until recently when I went to see that all my behaviours made sense and the world we live in doesn’t cater for Neurodiverse people. What I see a lot in my golf lessons is when golfers try to put more power into a downswing, they use their shoulders as oppose to pulling their arms down first. This can cause multiple issues including a change of swing path and angle that they are coming into the ball. What you should be feeling is the arms pulling the club down from the top of the backswing. Then the shoulders and hips can turn into the ball. Want to know more about how this move can help?
