🎥 Meet the horses at Collective

From young horses just starting their journey to those further on in their training, we've got a great mix of horses in the stables at the moment.

Tom gives a quick introduction to who's who and shares a little bit about where each horse is in their training. As you might expect, he's already got a few favourites... although we're not sure the others will be too pleased about that! 😅

Do you sometimes feel as if you have to brace your body to maintain shoulder-in? If you find yourself getting tight and fixing your body, then have a go at this helpful exercise from Alex.☝️

If you've ever felt like you're working harder and harder to keep the Shoulder-In going, chances are your horse is starting to brace against the aids too. Rather than trying to hold exactly the same angle all the way down the long side, think about moving the horse around a little more. Ride a few strides with more angle, then straighten slightly, then bring the angle back again.

💡 It keeps the horse listening, keeps the movement flowing, and helps prevent both horse and rider from getting fixed. Sometimes the best Shoulder-In isn't the one with the most angle—it's the one that stays supple, balanced and easy all the way through. 🐴✨

There’s something pretty special about this stage of a horse’s journey.

Tom out in the sunshine (when it finally decided to show it's lovely face) with one of our young horses this week, putting in the kind of work that doesn’t always get seen. No pressure, no expectations just taking the time to build confidence, understanding and strength, one ride at a time.

With so much excitement around the dressage world at the moment and young horses beginning to make their mark this season, it's a good reminder that every successful partnership starts exactly here. In an arena, on an ordinary day, with countless small moments that slowly add up. This horse is still learning, still growing, and still figuring things out. But watching that confidence develop and seeing the pieces start to come together is what it's all about.

We believe the future isn't built in the competition arena. It's built in sessions like these. ☀️🐴

☀️ Making the most of the sunshine at Collective ☀️

Last week's weather was a welcome reminder that summer is on its way.

It’s been great to see the horses out enjoying all of the paddocks, making the most of the sunshine and stretching their legs. Meanwhile, the team have been making full use of the outdoor arena with a few four-legged spectators watching from the sidelines and occasionally looking like they could do the job better themselves 👀🐴

We're hoping the weather stays on our side for Wellington this week 🤞☀️
Good luck to all of our clients competing we hope you have a fantastic show and enjoy every minute of it. 🐴✨

🎥 Dressage tip with Alex: Struggling to improve your Half Pass marks?

If you're struggling to get high marks in your half passes, then here two different tips for you.

First, when you're riding your half pass, make sure that you push with your outside leg as the inside front leg is coming up. This helps better reach and elasticity.

Second, once you've established your half pass, check the horse is round your inside leg by riding a few steps of leg yield away from the direction of the half pass before carrying on with your line.

Give it a go in your next ride and let us know if it works for you 🐴✨

What does a typical day at Collective look like? 🐴

Shayna gives a behind-the-scenes look at life on the yard and the attention to detail that goes into caring for each horse. One of the things that makes working with horses so rewarding is that no two are the same. Every horse has its own routine, preferences and individual needs, and understanding those details plays an important role.

This insight into day-to-day life reflects the team effort, organisation and care that sit behind everything we do at Collective Equestrian. It’s the small details, consistency and knowing each horse as an individual that make the difference.
