Pads. technique. sweat. a few laughs… and probably me making everyone do something they complain about at first and secretly enjoy by the end 😅

I’m looking forward to tonight. We’ve got a brilliant group of people at Chesterfield Kickboxing and it’s great seeing everyone improve week after week.

I don’t even know where to begin.

Today, we had six fighters representing Chesterfield Kickboxing at the first interclub tournament of the year between Derbyshire Kickboxing and Kickbox UK… and I honestly could not be prouder.

Every single person who stepped onto those mats today was a winner.

Win, lose or draw was never the point. What mattered was having the courage to step out there, test yourselves, and demonstrate your skill. Every one of you did exactly that.

There were tough fights, tough opponents, and competitors with far more experience behind them… but not one of our fighters backed down. Every single one showed grit, composure, heart and resilience.

And to top it all off… we even brought home a few medals 👊🥇

For a club that only opened a few months ago, what you achieved today was unbelievable.

I could absolutely burst with pride. I genuinely can’t wait to watch your progression over the coming weeks, months and years.

This Sunday marks our first interclub tournament of the year 👊

When I first opened Chesterfield Kickboxing, I honestly didn’t know how long it would take before we had members ready to step onto the mats and test themselves in competition.

So the fact that SIX of our members are competing this weekend is something I’m incredibly proud of.

Like I said to you all in class this week - it doesn’t matter to me whether you win, lose or draw. What matters is that you’ve had the courage to put yourself out there, test your skills, gain valuable experience and have fun doing it.

This isn’t Vegas. Nobody’s becoming world champion on Sunday 😅

It’s a chance to learn, grow, and to challenge yourself.

Get a good night’s sleep tonight, stay loose, and I’ll see you all tomorrow 🥊

Huge congratulations to Coach Martin who has been a massive help in getting Chesterfield Kickboxing up and running, and making sure my students had an extra level of support during the earliest days of their training. His help has been invaluable.

Martin is one of the best kickboxers I know and being awarded his Blue Trousers is a sign of his hard work and dedication, not only to his own training, but to his commitment to helping others on their journey.

Sometimes in class we focus on the basics.
Stance. Guard. Jab. Cross. The things that really win fights.

But sometimes… it’s good to have a bit of fun and learn something a little more flashy.

This week: tornado kicks 🌪️

Not an easy technique. It takes timing, balance, coordination, and a bit of commitment to actually throw yourself into it.

Once again, everyone in class gave it a go, laughed when they didn’t pull it off, reset, and tried again. Getting a little bit closer each time. We even had a few land 👏

Really impressed with the effort from everyone this week 💪

The last couple of weeks have been a big step forward for the club.

We introduced a sparring session for the first time last week. Bearing in mind this club has only been open for 8 weeks, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

But you’ve all set the tone exactly right.

From the first session, it was clear - control, respect, composure. No egos.

Then this week, we built on it.

Working behind the jab. Learning how to deal with pressure. Operating in a tighter, enclosed space where you’ve got less time and less room to think.

That’s where things can fall apart… but you didn’t let that happen.

Everyone stayed calm, reacted to the pressure and stayed in control.

That’s real progress.

8 weeks in and already seeing this level of understanding, discipline and technique is seriously impressive.

Proud of every one of you 👊
