Weekend results 🏏🏏

With the summer nights drawing in and shadows extending the 2026 cricket season is entering its final few weeks. Blue skies again graced both our teams looking to bounce back in positive fashion.

Captain Tris led the lads on the longest away day of the season, into the Peaks we went as we took on Buxton at their picturesque home ground. Batting first on a green top batting was tricky early on, handy bowling and smart catching had us on the ropes early again. 5/79 at the halfway stage and on a difficult pitch the nerves were jangling. However the lower order again bailed us out with Malc hitting back to back 50s. These runs helped us to 180/8 which appeared to be a competitive total on a tricky wicket. Captain Bowers set the tone early with two wickets in the first over. Partnerships then built and batting looked simple for the first time. Bradders who’s a highly valued member of the team then showed his worth with a brilliant spell in the middle overs which wrestled the momentum back in our favour. Tight bowling towards the end made the game interesting however a couple of missed chances meant it slipped away. Kudos to the young 10 & 11 of Buxton whose maturity in the chase was impressive. A difficult couple of weeks for Tris & the lads but full focus remains on the remaining three matches.

Gaz and the 2s had the pleasure of spending the August afternoon at the home of cricket- The PCG🏑. Welcoming Hundall we found ourselves batting first and a tremendous partnership of 134 from John & Dale set the tone early. This partnership proved pivotal as the middle order stumbled as a set the visitors 179/7. Despite another strong opening stand we didn’t panic, wickets shared between the bowlers including a brilliant spell from young Ben Hough dragged the game back in our favour. Hundall dug in however vital draw points help consolidate our position in the table. A really positive performance from the lads as we eye a strong finish.

πŸ”΄ 1st XI lost vs Buxton by 1 wicket.

M.Jelley- 50
B.Garfoot- 4/43
J.Aldis- 3/20

🟒 2nd XI drew vs Hundall.

J.Worthy- 81 & 1/25
D.White- 41
B.Hough- 3/19

🏏🏏 Weekend results -

A tough weekend for both sides this weekend as results didn’t go our way. The 1st XI welcome league leaders Ilkeston to the PCG looking to right the wrongs from earlier this summer. Batting first and the alarm bells were ringing early as we slumped to 47/7 and staring down the barrel of a heavy blow. Malc & Tris then combined with a magnificent partnership of 140 to get us back in the game. Setting a competitive 200/8 after the position we found ourselves in was a real confidence boost. Fast start was needed however we never really got going, dropped catches and lacklustre bowling allowed partnerships to build and on a rapid outfield Ilkeston ran away with it. A tough pill to swallow however minds are now set on huge run with four games remaining.

Gaz and his troops headed north into South Yorkshire as they challenged Hollinsend CC in a mid table clash. Bowling first and a couple of strong centuries by their middle order batters set us an ominous total of 282! In reply we immediately understood the enormity of this task however batted diligently with batters occupying the crease. A valuable draw with bonus points gained a real show of character from the lads.

πŸ”΄ 1st XI lost vs Ilkeston by 4 wickets.

T.Bowers - 83 & 1/38
M.Jelley- 70
I.Worthy- 3/41

🟒 2nd XI drew with Hollinsend CC.

S.Fisher - 52

🏏🏏 Weekend results-

Another beautiful Saturday provided the perfect setting for two close and nerve wracking games of cricket. The 1st XI headed down to fellow promotion chasers Duffield in what is always a tight game between the two sides. On a good deck we batted first and Warsop flew out of the traps with a blistering 51 of 22 balls. He was backed up by Knowlesy and Femi who looked good again in their respective knocks. The middle order added valuable runs all the way through which propelled us to a competitive 265/8. Needing to set the tone early, captain Bowers always delivers with a wicket off the first ball of their reply. Tight bowling from the bowlers saw us firmly in the game with Duffield at 6/78 however a brutal hundred from their no.8 swung momentum the other way. Chances were missed however belief and positivity remained as I.Worthy (🐐) stepped up deceiving the batsman in the flight and Knowlesy doing the rest behind the stumps. A sigh of relief was felt around the ground by all. A huge few weeks now awaits for our 1st XI with some tough fixtures ahead.

Captain Hatton and the 2nd XI welcomed Cutthorpe to the PCG looking to cement their position in the top 5 of the table. Bowling early on a hot day at the home of cricket! Jay Clayton setting the tone early with a couple of poles, before a partnership began to build. Up steps Jack Storer who successfully perplexed the batters with his flight and guile to get two big wickets. More tight bowling saw us contain Cutthorpe who set a challenging 187/9. Early boundaries were had with Tommy Hewitt finding the white line early…to give us the perfect start! The innings was anchored by the experience of Dale who set the match us up before it was brilliantly finished by Russ, Jay & Rich- calm and composed at the end ensuring we collected maximum points.

πŸ”΄ 1st XI beat Duffield by 9 runs.

J.Warsop - 51
I.Knowles - 40
C.Johnson- 32 & 2/64
J.Aldis - 3/27

🟒 2nd XI beat Cutthorpe by 1 wicket.

D.White - 64
J.Clayton 8* & 3/20
J.Storer- 2/29

🏏🏏 Weekend result-

1st XI continue to build momentum with a crucial away win at local rivals, Morton CC. Captain Bowers led the lads 2 miles down the road as we looked to keep the pressure on at the top end of the table. Another toss lost and we were batting first, a strong start between Knowlesy & Femi set the platform early taking advantage of a glass like outfield. Not known for his speed, PCCCC newby Femi, was furthered hampered with a hammy stain however this aided his attacking nature with a powerful 85, a top knock! Some further l***y blows from Pie & Charlie saw us set Morton 297/5.
A strong start in response saw Morton on 100 without loss early on however a flurry of wickets and tight bowling from Worthy & Garfoot proved to much for the opposition. A crucial 22pts at a difficult place to go.

A huge couple of weeks await PCCC as we enter the business end of the season. Both 1st and 2nd XI’s are back in action next Saturday.

πŸ”΄ 1st XI beat Morton CC by 27 runs.

F.Colton - 85
J.Aldis - 64 & 1/50
B.Garfoot - 3/60

🏏🏏 Weekend results-

Summer Saturdays are flying round and the warm weather continues to yield brilliant cricket. Another warm day as we welcomed Marehay CC to the PCG. Loosing the toss and we were batting- 2 wickets within the first five overs wasn’t the ideal start however a recovery between Jack & Femi settled us down. Marehay came back into it through the middle overs with a flurry of wickets however a counter punch between local lads, Kyle & Cam saw the momentum swing back in our favour. This carried on into the second innings with Jimmy & Tris sharing 5 early scalps. Sharp catching and the accuracy of Malc & Ian (🐐) proved to much in the end and the 22pts were secured. A really postive showing from the 1st XI with contributions throughout showing the strength in depth.

Captain Hatton led his brigade northwest to Grindleford as they took on the league leaders. Bowling early and a strong start for the hosts looked ominous. However a revival in the middle order saw a cluster of wickets fall however sloppy fielding and missed chances were rued as we let Grindleford get to many. A strong start in reply with experienced duo of Woody & Dale gave us a glimmer however being on the wrong side of a rain shower didn’t help the batters. πŸ¦†πŸ¦† Some valuable bonus points however not our best day at the office.

Sunday bought the women’s softball team back into action as we travelled to picturesque Ashover for the festival. Looking to continue recent fine form was the goal and this was achieved with wins coming against- Ashover & Apperknowle! 16 wins from 19 games this season for our women’s side shows the strides which have been made and the hard work put in! Well done ladies! If you’re new to cricket or fancy coming along please get in touch for further details.

πŸ”΄ 1st XI beat Marehay by 140 runs.

T.Bowers - 39 & 2/20
J.Warsop - 39
F.Colton - 39
J.Aldis- 3/16
I.Worthy- 3/24

🟒 2nd XI lost to Grindleford by 112 runs.

O.Lowe- 3/42
S.Wood - 45
D.White - 34
