Chesterfield Swimming Club

Chesterfield Swimming Club "A small club with a big vision. We aspire to be the best programme in the world, providing the best If so, we have a programme that's right for you.

Who we are and what we do:

Chesterfield Swimming Club began in 1983 and is now North Derbyshire's largest competitive swimming club. We offer a full range of opportunities from Learn-to-Swim for adults and children of all ages from two upwards all the way through to National level competition for the area's Elite swimmers. Where we are:

We are based at the superb new Queen's Park Sports Centre i

n Chesterfield but also use Pond's Forge in Sheffield, Healthy Living Centre in Staveley and Highfield Hall School, which is our Learn to Swim base. Competitive Swimming:

We run squads from pre-competitive level through to those preparing swimmers for Derbyshire, Midlands and National Championships. We also support pathways for the most talented swimmers to move to performance programmes within Derbyshire and Sheffield. We take part in a wide range of galas, junior leagues and championships, Open Water events and have a thriving Masters section. Stroke Development:

For children who can swim already, we offer a progressive programme of stroke development classes as "Swim Chesterfield" in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council. These are suitable for those who wish to take up swimming as a sport but equally so for others who simply want to develop their confidence in water. Learn to Swim:

Is your child wanting to learn how to swim or are you an adult who wishes to learn or just gain more confidence in the water? Club Members:

We have 400 members of which over 250 are swimming members between the ages of 2 and 70. We have many other members who support the swimmers in a wide variety of ways. Some are our professional teachers and coaches. Most, however, are voluntary helpers of which some form the committee who run the club, others are officials required for running swimming events, some are lifeguards, chaperones, website managers, squad reps, team managers, etc. Swimming is a time-consuming sport requiring a significant network of volunteers with many different skills to run it. We are always in need of additional support so please let us know if you have anything to offer.

Report from Ian Spencer- Head Coach

Thanks Nic for the superb posts over the past two weeks of racing at British and English Nationals, and what a couple of weeks it’s been.

Our athletes have been fantastic, demonstrating outstanding character and belief in their ability. This doesn’t just come together on the day and is the product of a full season of hard work, tough races, and resilience to overcome setbacks. The way in which our team have grown as people and performers over the past 12 months has been an absolute pleasure for me to be part of.

The achievements of our athletes should be an inspiration to all of our members who have goals of competing and being successful at National level.

I’m delighted that Carlos Sierra Villegas becomes Chesterfield Swimming Club”s first ever British Champion, it seems right that our first goes to someone who has gone all the way through our programme from Academy Squad to National.

We are a team and I wanted the performances at British Nationals to have a positive effect on our athletes competing at the English competition, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. 4 medals in 20 minutes on Wednesday being an incredible moment for Chesterfield Swimming Club, backing it up with a further 4 medals on Thursday was a great display of hunger and desire for further success.

This years team have created history:

-First ever British Champion🥇🇬🇧
-9 Medals (Joint Highest Total)
-More finalists than ever (18)
-Most individual medalists (5)

Congratulations to each and everyone of you, you have all played your part in our success and enjoy a well deserved rest over the next three weeks.

Thank you Stuart for your contribution to this years success and to all our coaches / volunteers who without your time, energy and support this really would not have been possible.

We”re laying strong foundations, but there are still many areas where we can improve. So, no reason why we can’t create more history next season.

Lily-Grace rounded off the National Championships in style in the 16 Years 200m IM.

After matching her entry time with a 2:29.88 PB in the heats to qualify for the final, Lily stepped up again in the evening, producing another personal best of 2:27.04 to finish 5th. It was an incredibly close race, with just 0.10 seconds separating 3rd and 5th place.

A fantastic way to end her first National Championships, with two personal bests and a top-five national finish. Congratulations, Lily!

That brings our 2026 National Summer Championships to a close. A huge well done to all of our swimmers, coaches, team managers, officials and families for a fantastic week. Thank you for all your support, and congratulations to everyone on an incredible championship. 💙🤍

It’s the last day of an incredible week of racing, and today it’s Lily-Grace Belfield’s turn to take to the pool as she competes in the 200m Individual Medley.

As a first-time national qualifier, this is a fantastic achievement, and everyone at Chesterfield Swimming Club is incredibly proud of her.

We can’t wait to see Lily out there today and hope she enjoys every second of competing on the national stage. Have a brilliant swim, Lily – we’re all cheering you on! 💙🤍

A huge well done to Daisy and Maisie, who have brought their 2026 National Summer Meet campaigns to a close. Both represented Chesterfield Swimming Club brilliantly throughout the week, and we’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved. 👏

Today’s heats certainly brought the drama! Holly was involved in an incredible swim-off for the final place in tonight’s 15 Years 50m Breaststroke Final. After both swimmers recorded exactly the same time in the first swim-off, they had to go again—and Holly held her nerve to edge it and book her place in the final. What a performance! 💪

Congratulations also to Amelia, who has qualified for tonight’s 17 Years 50m Breaststroke Final with another excellent swim.

Best of luck to Holly and Amelia this evening. Everyone at Chesterfield Swimming Club will be cheering you on! 💙🤍

In the 50m Breaststroke, we have a fantastic trio representing the club:
🔹 Holly Ralph
🔹 Maisie Wilkes
🔹 Amelia Denham

A huge good luck to all four swimmers. Swim fast, enjoy the experience, and make the most of every race!
