UK cycling fans now have an actual schedule to plan around.

Channel 5 has confirmed it will broadcast daily Tour de France highlights at 7pm throughout July, fronted by Rebecca Charlton, starting with the Barcelona Grand Départ on 4 July. The same evening highlights treatment will follow for the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in August and the Vuelta a España in September. From 2027, the Giro d'Italia will also land on 5.

The biggest moment of the multi-year arrangement comes in 2027, when the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes both open their seasons on British roads. Channel 5 will show live free-to-air coverage of those UK Grand Départ stages, which are set to pass through Scotland, England and Wales. Daily highlights of the rest of the 2027 Tour de France Femmes will also air on the channel.

For viewers without a TNT Sports subscription, this is the first daily free-to-air cycling window since ITV walked away from the rights last year. The full live race remains behind the TNT Sports paywall on HBO Max, but the evening summary is back where casual UK fans have always found it, on a free channel at a familiar hour.

Set the recorder for 7pm.

Lael Wilcox rolls away from Buckingham Fountain in Chicago in the early hours of June 7 with a target most consider unreachable. She wants to become the fastest person, male or female, to circumnavigate the globe by bike.

The American already holds the women's Around the World Guinness World Record, set in 2024 with a self-supported 18,125-mile ride completed in 108 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes. She is now chasing Mark Beaumont's outright record of 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes, set in 2017.

The math is brutal. To beat Beaumont, Wilcox will need to average roughly 240 miles per day for more than 11 weeks, spending around 16 hours a day in the saddle across North America, Europe, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand before returning to Chicago.

For the first time in 11 years of ultra racing, she will ride fully supported, telling Cyclingnews this is the most ambitious and expensive goal of her life. She has tested her position in Specialized's wind tunnel and shaved her head, claiming it will save her around 13 hours across the route.

In a press release announcing her plan, Wilcox said breaking the outright record would be inspiring for women and communities around the world. Her 2024 ride, she has called a goodwill tour. This one, she says, is all business.

Sad news for the staff in Manchester. Always were a great team of cycling enthusiasts.

Rapha is to close five of its Clubhouses due to changes "needed" at the British cycling clothing brand, it was revealed on Friday afternoon.

Boulder, Chicago, Miami and Seattle in the USA along with Manchester in the UK are the locations to be closing. There are 20 other Clubhouses, effectively stores with cafés which offer events and social rides, across the world.

Fran Millar, Rapha's CEO, called it a "painful decision" but the "right call" in a statement. Manchester is set to close next Sunday, 18 January.
