MWTA British Championships

After two weekends of taekwondo black belt grading, Imogen hadn’t had enough. Today, Imogen (competing as a black tag) and Paula (black tag) joined by coaches, Mr Pascal II and Mr Gilling II, made the drive down to Herne Bay for Master Wolf’s Taekwondo Academy British Championships.

Imogen started off with patterns smashing through round after round winning the Gold medal. Following suit, Paula performed excellent patterns earning herself the silver.

Imogen entered herself into the sparring fighting strong winning the semi final. In the final, Imogen fought well facing a strong fighter practicing for the World Cup in September. Imogen was awarded the Silver.

Followed by some fish and chips by the sea before heading home, a highly successful day for the mother-daughter duo. Well done to you both! Firstly for putting yourselves to the test and secondly for rising to the challenge.

30/04/2026

It is with great pleasure and pride to announce the results from the recent BUTF black belt grading. In total we had 6 candidates all of whom were successful. From a total field of 30 there were 5 failures which goes to prove that a great deal of preparation and dedication is needed and the belt is earned through much hard work.

All of our candidates put in that extra bit, attending most lessons leading up to the grading. In the terminology test all of our students scored high; in the 80 or 90%. And all our new black belts are juniors so many thanks to the parents who have supported throughout and I'm sure you must be immensely proud.

From the results you will see out of the 4 merit passes we had 2. Both Imogen and Maria had the top 2 scores respectively and Zakariya had 4th equal score.

We also have the honour of gaining another 4th dan in the form of Mr Hanchant. He has now earned his stripes which is often the biggest goal of most black belts.

All in all fantastic results which they all deserved, so many congratulations. Now you have reached your first goal of black belt there is plenty more to learn and you should fix your sights on your next goals. Even looking ahead to maybe one day becoming an instructor with your own club.

From my own experience ( and I'm sure from my other high grades ) I have benefitted so much from Taekwondo. To me and many high ranking friends in the art it has become a way of life. A lot of pleasure not only from training but passing the knowledge onto others and watching them progress.

So our clubs have now swelled in the black belt ranks with several of you are not far off. Early preparation is key.

Again, massive congratulations to our newly promoted black belts from all of your fellow students:

Mr Hanchant 4th Dan
Miss Rees 1st Dan
Miss Grozea 1st Dan
Mr Sajid 1st Dan
Mr Kamath 1st Dan
Miss Qasam 1st Dan

Two weeks of tournaments (Part 2)

The second tournament saw 3 competitors from both Chesham and GM TKD entered the LTSI South East Open:
Antonia (Green belt)
Paula (Red belt)
Imogen (Black Tag)

I’ll start by saying this was an excellent day for our female fighters. They should all be exceptionally proud of themselves they are excellent role models for women in our local community.

Antonia started the day with her pattern, proceeding to the bronze playoff where she won her first medal. Imogen went next progressing into a gold playoff taking home the Silver medal. Paula finished off the patterns also taking home the Silver.

Moving onto sparring, Antonia started us off by smashing through multiple fights earning the Gold medal. Imogen was informed she was the only person in her category and could take the gold and go home. Instead she entered into an exhibition fight with a black belt - an impressive feat for one of our best colour belts. Imogen fought hard, winning the fight despite the difference in belt.

An excellent return after months of hard work in training. A very well done to all three of the them.

Well done!

Two weeks of Tournaments (Part 1)

Over the last two weeks students from both Chesham and Great Missenden TKD have entered two tournaments - the GTI English Open and the LTSI South East Open.

First the GTI. A national level competition held in Hinckley on 15th Feb, we had 6 students enter:
Grayson (Yellow belt),
Alice (Green tag),
Antonia (Green belt),
Miss Hamilton I,
Mr Archbald I,
Mr Gilling II

All performed excellently with Grayson and Antonia up first in their respective junior categories. Following this Alice took her turn showing off her hard-work in training. Then the black belts, Mr Archbald started off the medals with a bronze in the cadets division. Shortly after Miss Hamilton followed suit with the bronze in adult females. Finally, Mr Gilling won the Silver for his pattern.

Moving onto sparring, Grayson, Antonia and Alice all fought hard in their categories but missed out on the medals. Mr Archbald set the standard with another Bronze medal. Once again, Miss Hamilton followed winning a Bronze in her division after two very tough fights. Mr Gilling finished off the sparring for day in the adult heavyweight black belt division. After winning his way into the final (2x 2 minute rounds), he was 30 seconds from finishing off when he suffered a severe knee injury ending the fight. As this was the final, Mr Gilling took his second Silver of the day. The remaining black belts entered the destruction but neither won.

BUTF Tournament 2025

On Saturday 29th November, the entire BUTF came together for their annual tournament. We saw some amazing Patterns, Sparring and Destruction.

I’ll start by saying a massive thank you to our black belts who umpired and judged for all the colour belts before competing themselves. A massive well done to every competitor who entered, it’s always beneficial to test yourself whether you win a medal or not.

Chesham entered 24 students bringing home 12 Golds, 8 Silvers and 7 Bronzes and Great Missenden entered 15 students winning 6 Golds, 7 Silvers and 3 Bronzes - amazing numbers from both clubs. Across the whole BUTF, Chesham were the top club in terms of medals.

I initially wrote out a huge essay about every persons results but it went on far too long. So a quick summary followed by the results.

For those that couldn’t make it, we started with our ceremony where we saw Black belts, Miss Hamilton, Mr Johnson and Mr Tinlin all receive their official 1st Dan certificates.

We then moved through colour belt patterns starting at the youngest and lowest belt working our way up through the colour belts. We saw some exceptional patterns across all grades.

Following this we saw the colour belt sparring. In both point-stop sparring (for junior colour belts) and continuous (senior colour belts) we saw the ex*****on of exceptional skill, technique and talent. We are all incredibly proud and impressed with the performances you all did.

To finish off the colour belts - destruction & special techniques. Across our two clubs we saw never ending battles between our students against one another until we saw a victor. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward for this category.

After the colour belts finished, the black belts had their turn. First patterns, all of our students completing two rounds with Chesham and GM winning a medal in each division (1st/2nd Dan Males, 1st/2nd Females and 3/4/5th Dan Males).

Moving to sparring, in the adult males, Chesham and GM took 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Finally the destruction, Mr Archibald executed a 360 jumping back kick through 3 boards to beat the BUTF record holder for that kick. A very very impressive feat.

Although it is not all about medals we want to give a huge congratulations to our medal winners who have trained hard and put themselves to the test and against other students and clubs. With this in mind, a huge congratulations to Luca who for the third year in a row has won three Gold medals!

Tournament day is over! The annual BUTF tournament was held today in Uxbridge. Between Chesham and Great Missenden we had plenty of students enter in plenty of categories.

I’ll do a full write up once we confirm all the results but to all our competitors Well Done! You put yourself to the test and you’ll be better off for it whether that’s through experience or medals.

A special thank you to our black belts for umpiring across the day with the majority going on to compete themselves!

Well done everyone!
