With only two more weeks remaining, Chipperfield have now secured their place in the final of the Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club League. New to the league in 2026, Chipperfield have been consistently strong throughout the season, and have only been beaten on one occasion. This week's 'victims' were the Ley Hill Golf Club side, who had fielded a strong team for the tie. Chipperfield's best score came from Nick Asbridge (20pts) and it was backed up by captain Martin Adams (17pts) playing off a very respectable 8 handicap.

So who will Chipperfield play in the July 13th Final? Their nearest rivals 1879 Tennis Club and Ley Hill School were locked in a 2nd v 3rd dual. Despite a magnificent round from the School's James Ramsey (22pts), it was the Tennis Club that emerged victorious (53-51). For the Tennis Club, Simon Reynolds led the way wwith 20points and captain Sheila Jalland contributed another useful 17 points. Sheila won the ladies longest drive prize, and Jane Madden completed their successful night, by winning the nearest-the-pin prize!

In match two West Herts were too strong for Harewood Artisans. Captain Gary Rees produced a season's best 21 points to guide his team to a 52-47 victory. Match four was a close contest between Ley Hill CC and Bovingdon FC. The cricketers narrowly edge the match 41-40 thanks to a tidy 19 points from Tony Shaw. Bovingdon's Ian Birkett won the men's longest drive prize. Match five was between the bottom two sides Golden Eagle and Berko Rangers. These two lowly sides couldn't be separated and the match ended in a 44-44 tie! Dave Simons from the Driving Range team shot the best score with 18pts.

The night's final match was a one-sided affair between the Juniors and Chorleywood. The juniors, down to three, were thumped 53-39 by the Hertfordshire team. Simon Wood scored an excellent 19 points. The league resumes next Monday with some mouth watering fixtures. Ley Hill School face leaders Chipperfield, in what might be a prelude to the final, but the other sides in contention cannot afford to slip up against lower-placed opposition.

The Chesham and Ley Hill Ladies, dressed in brightly coloured kit, enjoyed a truly tropical round on Tuesday for the Lady Captain’s Prize Day.
On their journey to different tropical countries, they encountered many hazards like lava, crabs and parrots. But if they landed on the beach(bunker) they were allowed to use their buckets to help them progress to the palm tree(hole)!
And of course, refreshments were available at the Tiki Bar where a blue lagoon cocktail was a particular favourite
Before prize giving the ladies practised some banana putting and chipping into the lagoon.
Maragret Flowers negotiated the hazards particularly well by winning first prize in the morning with a magnificent 25 points over 9 holes and Lynn, Barrett, Anne Hyde and Rhama Payne were the winners of the afternoon 3BBB in the afternoon.
The day was rounded off with some delicious tropical desserts made by committee members.
Thanks to all for making it such a terrific tropical trip!

Week 8 of the Ley Hill Monday Night League produced a full evening of competitive golf, with several close contests, strong individual performances and some impressive team results. Six matches were played, with the standings continuing to take shape as teams battled for valuable league points. Chipperfield strengthened their place at the top of the league with a business-like win over Golden Eagle. Dom Murphy was the star performer with 16 points.

1879 Tennis Club secured a convincing win over Harewood Downs, taking the match 52–41. The result was built on a series of solid performances from Alan Cripps (20 pts), Sheila Jalland (16pts)and Simon Reynolds (16pts). Sheila also claimed the ladies’ longest drive prize.

The closest encounter of the night saw Ley Hill School and Golf Club finish level at 51–51. Jonathan Pile led the way for Ley Hill School with the best score of 20 points, while both teams contributed strongly throughout a tightly fought contest. Ley Hill School stay second in the league, but there are four other sides, including the Golf Club within a point of the school!

Cricket Club scored a surprising 50–41 victory against West Herts. Jamie Matyus-Flynn delivered 17 points, and collected the men’s longest drive prize on the way. Ian Walter added to the Cricket Club’s success by claiming the nearest-the-pin prize. Bovingdon FC recorded the strongest team performance of the evening, beating Juniors 52–45. John Reid was the highest individual scorer - across all six matches - with an outstanding 21 points, while Dave Hutton’s 19 points was also notable due to his meagre 3 handicap!

Chorleywood finished the night with a resounding victory over lowly Berko Rangers. John Lambert and Richard Knight (18 points each) helped to consign Rangers to the bottom of the league.

Another successful week of league golf saw plenty of competitive matches, strong individual displays and continued excitement as the season progresses. There are three more weeks of league fixtures remaining, and then the finals night will see 1st v 2nd for the league title.

The heavy rain moved away just in time, and week 7 of the Chesham & Ley Hill golf league was bathed in glorious evening sunshine. Leaders Chipperfield strengthened their place at the top of the table with a sensational 54-47 victory over Chorleywood Golf Club. Danny Truter led the way with the evenings best score of 22 points, ably supported by team captain Martin Adams (17pts). Remarkably, Chorleywood’s score of 47 points would have beaten any other team on the night!

In a low-scoring contest, Golden Eagle recorded their first win of the season against high-flying Ley Hill School. James Dormer added a steady 16 points for the pub side, and Luke Howarth collected the men’s longest drive on the way to their 39-35 victory. The Juniors, aided by two of their parents, moved to second place, with a fine 46-39 win over West Herts. Once again, fourteen-year-old Freddie Passingham was their leading player, with a fine 20 points, and in the process beating his [ex-pro] father’s gross score!

The closest match was between 1879 Tennis Club and the Ley Hill Golf Club team. Captain Sheila Jalland (17pts) guided her team to a 46-44 victory and severely blunted the golf club’s title defence ambitions. Sheila also won the nearest-the-pin prize on the short twelfth hole. Claire Moore scored a valuable 16 points and won the ladies longest drive prize too. In another close match, Bovingdon FC edged out Berkhamsted Driving Range 45-43. Karl Diggins and Oliver Beale scored 17 points each.

Harewood Downs were convincing winners over Ley Hill Cricket Club. Rob Craddock was the leading Harewood player with 17 points, and fourteen-year-old Zack Smith contributed a useful 15 points off his miserly five handicap.

The league will resume next Monday evening with several teams hoping to gain ground on leaders Chipperfield.

We are now over halfway through the Chesham & Ley Hill Golf League season, and two teams sit jointly at the top of the table on 10 points. Newcomers Chipperfield Crocs have been impressively consistent throughout the campaign, while Ley Hill School have been the surprise package after finishing bottom of the league in 2025.

The weather was considerably cooler than in recent weeks and, in a change to the usual format, players competed from the back nine tees. There were nine birdies recorded during the evening, including four on the challenging par-three 13th hole.

In Match One, 1879 Tennis Club suffered a surprise defeat to a three-man Cricket Club team. Tony Shaw (18 points) and George Woodley (16 points) led the way as the Cricketers secured a 41–38 victory.

In Match Two, Ley Hill Golf Club overcame struggling Golden Eagle Pub. Richard Pearl scored 16 points and claimed the nearest-the-pin prize, while Jackie Hanling won the women’s longest-drive competition.

The feature match of the evening saw Harewood Artisans take on Juniors. Most of the players were single-figure handicappers, including one competitor playing off a remarkable plus-one handicap. It proved to be a closely fought contest, but Harewood emerged victorious, with Zack Smith producing an excellent 17-point haul off his five handicap. Harewood’s Rupert Pilgrim claimed the men’s longest-drive prize.

Ley Hill School continued their impressive season with a fine victory over a strong Chorleywood side. It was also the closest match of the night, with the School prevailing by a single point, 42–41. Chris Hewitt, who travelled two hours from Dagenham to play, was their standout performer with an excellent 20 points.

John Sterling’s superb round of 20 points was not enough to prevent Berko Driving Range from recording their first win of the season. Captain Simon Royal led from the front with 19 points, while Phil Bandy (17 points) produced his customary consistency as the Rangers ran out 51–47 winners.

The final match was a local derby between Bovingdon and Chipperfield. Despite some excellent performances from the Bovingdon side, including 20 points from Oliver Beales, Chipperfield once again proved too strong and continued their impressive run near the top of the table.

It was a scorching Bank Holiday Monday, and some players were on fire during week 5 of the Chesham & Ley Hill Monday Night League! With temperatures reaching into the thirties it was hot work for the golfers, but the dry conditions did make scoring much easier.

Hamish Watherstone parred seven consecutive holes to return a remarkable 25 points, and propel his Ley Hill School team to third place in the league table. Just one point short of Hamish’s score was Claire Moore of 1879 Tennis Club. Claire’s 24 stableford points ensured her team were comfortable winners over strugglers Golden Eagle.

The Juniors team maintained their push towards the league title, with a win over the Cricket Club. Once again they were spearheaded by 14yo Freddie Passingham. Freddie scored 21 points which included a birdie on the difficult 8th hole.

The closest match was between Harewood Artisans and Berkhamsted Driving Range. The Harewood team won by a single point, thanks to the subtle captaincy of Rupert Pilgrim. Rupert decided that young Zack Smith would play better if he wasn’t partnered with his dad!

The top-of-the-table clash between Chipperfield and West Herts was not so close. Chipperfield were comfortable winners after a standout performance from their captain Martin Adams (18pts), although West Herts John Stirling did take away the nearest-the-pin prize.

Longest drive prizes went to James Dormer of the Golden Eagle team and Jackie Hanling of the Ley Hill Golf Club team.

On a chilly Monday night, twelve teams battled it out on Week 4 of the Monday Night Golf League. There are now no unbeaten teams, and five of those teams are tied on 6 points.

In match 1 the high flying Juniors were outplayed by 1879 Tennis Club. There was another strong performance from Freddie Passingham (18pts) but it wasn’t enough to surpass the Tennis Club where all of their players scored 16 points.

In match 2, Golden Eagle were soundly beaten by Chorleywood, whose top scorer was former Ley Hill member Mervyn Newman (16pts). The Ley Hill Golf Club team produced a strong performance to defeat in-form Bovingdon FC. The husband and wife duo of Matt and Julia Yerrell scores 18 points each to condemn Bovingdon to a 36-50 defeat.

Cricket Club recorded their first win of the season with a 43-39 win over fellow strugglers Berko Driving Range. George Woodley returned a fine 18pts for the Cricketers. Chipperfield Crocs propelled themselves to the top of the league (on points difference) by virtue of a 48-38 win over Harewood Artisans. Danny Truter was their best player with a credible 17pts.

The top scorer on the night was Ley Hill School’s Chris Hewitt (21 pts). He also took the prize fro nearest the pin. Further strong performances from Hamish Watherston and Rich Owens gave the School a comfortable win over the West Herts team.

The longest drive was recorded by Rupert Pilgrim from Harewood Artisans.

Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club Monday Night League

Week 3 of the Monday Night Golf League was a close affair! Two matches were decided by just one point, and there were some quite surprising results!

In match one, strong favourites 1879 Tennis Club were soundly beaten 46-40 by newcomers Chorleywood Golf Club. Three of the Chorleywood team were playing off single figure handicaps, and they all produced steady performances. Simon Wood led the way with a credible 16 points off 8 handicap. Pam Munday Cripps did however enjoy the satisfaction of winning the ladies longest drive!

The Juniors continued their winning streak with a 44-40 win over strugglers Berko Driving Range. Fourteen year old Freddie Passingham led the way with 19 points off 10 handicap. Freddie’s night was further rewarded with prizes for the longest drive and nearest-the-pin! Bovingdon Football Club also continued their strong start with a 46-36 win over Golden Eagle Pub. Kevin Franklin was another low handicapper (4) who impressed with 16 points. Bovingdon are top of the league, but only by virtue of points difference across the three matches.

The real surprise was the defeat suffered by the Ley Hill team. West Herts managed to squeeze a 43-42 win and are now tied in second place with the Juniors. The final match of the night was another nailbiter as none of the eight players scored less than 12 points. Ley Hill School narrowly edged out Harewood Artisans by 47 to 46 points. Jonathan Pile and Rich Owens managed 16 points each.
