The Sunday XI went down to a narrow 22-run defeat at the weekend as they hosted New Calypsonians CC.
Having won the toss and put the opposition in H&C CC had to be patient before some smart fielding from George Messenger caused the run out of the first of the openers. The home team were able to slow down the pace of scoring and wickets began to fall thanks to Ben Morris (3-46) and Ian Hames (3-34) resulting in the visitors being restricted to a gettable 213 all out.
The new opening partnership of Jon Braid and George Messenger settled in well, but scoring against the tight Calypsonians bowling put H&C CC behind the necessary scoring rate. With George Messenger dismissed one short of his maiden club 50, it was left to Sam Hames to take the fight to the bowlers in typical bludgeoning fashion. A quick fire 53 off 26 balls had the field spread but with 25 needed off the last over, it proved too much.
Man of the Match: George Messenger
