Two deadlifts. Very different feelings in the body.

If your deadlift has ever felt a bit off, more back than legs, heavier than it should, just not quite right, here are a few things worth having a look at 👇🏼

If your hips are shooting up first:
Try thinking about pushing the floor away rather than pulling the bar up. Legs first, always.

If the bar is drifting away from the body:
Think about shaving your legs on the way up and the way down. The further it travels away, from you, the harder it gets.

If your back is rounding at the top or bottom:
Try taking a breath and bracing through your middle before the bar even leaves the floor. Practice pushing back into your hips more too, even without weight.

If the finish feels like a lean back:
Try thinking about standing tall rather than finishing with a flourish. Hips through, shoulders back, done.

None of this needs to be perfect from day one. Deadlifts can look intimidating from the outside but really it’s just picking something up, done well. And once it clicks, it’s one of the most satisfying lifts there is.

If you’ve never tried one, or you’ve tried and it didn’t feel quite right, come and do one with us. We’ll walk through it with you. 🖤

The nerves aren’t a sign you shouldn’t go. They’re a sign it actually matters to you.

So next time your thumb’s hovering over the cancel button, run through these:

1. What’s the genuine worst that can happen? (You put a weight back down. That’s it. That’s the whole disaster.)
2. Has every woman in that room been a beginner once? Every. Single. One.
3. Am I waiting to “feel ready”? Because ready gets built *in* the room, not before it.
4. Would I rather be nervous for one hour, or wonder about it for another year?
5. What if it’s actually… completely fine?

You don’t have to feel confident to come. That’s the entire point of us.

Coach Katy is the reason a lot of our members get through their week.

Not in a dramatic way. In a “I’ve got 45 minutes between school run and a work call, can I still come?” way. (Yes. Always yes.)

She coaches the women who keep everyone else going… mums, multi-taskers, the ones who haven’t carved out an hour just for themselves in a long time.

And in her own time? She’s casually signed up for Deadly Dozen and Hyrox in the same summer. Because of course she has.

If you’ve been waiting until life feels calmer to start, come meet her. She’ll quietly show you that you don’t have to.

Whether you’ve never touched a bench press in your life or you’ve been lifting with us for a while — this one’s for you 🖤

Coach Rose is showing us all the different ways we can make a bench press work for you at Strong Ladies Club.

Because we believe every movement should have an option that works for *you*, where you are, right now.

Just getting started? We’ve got you.
Been lifting for a while and ready to push harder? We’ve got you too.

Here’s how it works 👇🏼

Floor Press - all the benefits of a bench press with a reduced range of motion. A brilliant place to start building strength and confidence with the movement.

Dumbbells - great for working each side independently, finding your range and getting comfortable with the press pattern before adding a barbell.

Bench Press - the main event. Chest, shoulders, triceps. We’ll make sure you’ve got the technique nailed before we start playing with weight.

Add Pause - holding at the bottom of the movement makes it significantly harder. A simple way to increase the challenge without adding a single kg to the bar.

Add Weight - when the movement feels strong and consistent, we load it. Simple as that.

No matter where you’re starting from, there is a version of this that is right for you.

That’s kind of our whole thing 💪🏼

Our horribly detailed guide on how to walk into a weights room and actually know what you’re doing:

đź–¤ Step 1: Pick one movement and learn it properly. Not five. Not a full programme you found online at 11pm. One. A squat, a deadlift, a bench press. Watch it, practise it with no weight, then add weight, add a pause or an incline. Confidence comes from repetition, not from knowing everything before you start.

🏋🏼‍♀️Step 2: Stop picking the light weights. The 2kg dumbbells are not doing what you think they’re doing. Pick something that feels challenging. If you could do it forever, it’s too light. You’re already lifting heavier than that every single day without thinking about it.

⏳Step 3: Give yourself six weeks before you decide if it’s working. Week one you’re figuring it out. Week two you’re getting comfortable. Week six you’re lifting more than you thought you could and wondering why you waited so long. Progress isn’t loud and you won’t always notice it happening, but it is happening.

👏🏼 Step 4: Find somewhere that explains things without making you feel stupid for asking. This is the one most women skip and it’s the one that changes everything. The environment matters more than the programme. More than the equipment. More than anything else.

That’s exactly what we’ve built at Strong Ladies Club.

It’s number 3.

We see it happen every single week.

Women who walk in feeling nervous, unsure, convinced they’re the least experienced person in the room and leave feeling something they didn’t expect.

Like a Strong Lady!!

And I know you’ve heard it before but confidence isn’t something you get before you start lifting, it grows every time you show up.

Every rep. Every session. Every week you come back.

Motivation comes and goes but confidence (like real confidence), that sticks around.
