Two deadlifts. Very different feelings in the body.
If your deadlift has ever felt a bit off, more back than legs, heavier than it should, just not quite right, here are a few things worth having a look at 👇🏼
If your hips are shooting up first:
Try thinking about pushing the floor away rather than pulling the bar up. Legs first, always.
If the bar is drifting away from the body:
Think about shaving your legs on the way up and the way down. The further it travels away, from you, the harder it gets.
If your back is rounding at the top or bottom:
Try taking a breath and bracing through your middle before the bar even leaves the floor. Practice pushing back into your hips more too, even without weight.
If the finish feels like a lean back:
Try thinking about standing tall rather than finishing with a flourish. Hips through, shoulders back, done.
None of this needs to be perfect from day one. Deadlifts can look intimidating from the outside but really it’s just picking something up, done well. And once it clicks, it’s one of the most satisfying lifts there is.
If you’ve never tried one, or you’ve tried and it didn’t feel quite right, come and do one with us. We’ll walk through it with you. 🖤
