🟢⚫️ TEAM NEWS – GAME WEEK 6 ⚫️🟢

Once again, a massive thank you to our Match Week sponsor ASC Phillips for their support 🙌

1st XI
Two changes for AJ’s men as they make the trip to Maesteg. Henry Sullivan and Josh Tregaskes come into the side as the boys look to continue their recent improvement 👊

2nd XI
Back at Mathern Road for a top-of-the-table clash. The unbeaten 2s welcome league leaders Creigiau in what promises to be a huge game in Division 3. Shaveen returns after an uncharacteristic week off, while Bartlett somehow finds a way to be available after last week’s 💯 ✅

3rd XI
Plenty of changes for Brent’s army ahead of another tough trip to Dinas Powys. The big question — can they do it without RC9? 👀 Let’s hope so!

Good luck to everyone representing the club this weekend 🙌

Let’s hope the sun finally decides to make an appearance ☀️

Go on Chep! 🟢⚫️

🟢⚫️ FIXTURES – GAME WEEK 6 ⚫️🟢

A massive thank you to Phillips ASC for sponsoring this weekend’s matches — absolute legends 🙌

Unfortunately, the weather has had other ideas this week, with junior fixtures falling victim to the rain ☔️ Let’s hope Saturday brings some sunshine and a full day of cricket ☀️🏏

1st XI vs Maesteg
AJ’s men make the trip to high-flying Maesteg, looking to build on the encouraging signs shown over the last few weeks 👊

2nd XI vs Creigiau
The unbeaten 2s are back at Mathern Road and will be looking to keep their impressive start to the season going against Creigiau 💪

3rd XI vs Dinas Powys III

Thursday Night – Macey Cup T20
A good crowd gathered at Mathern Road as we welcomed Panteg. After losing the toss, Rhys Leach ripped through the top order, reducing the visitors to 12/3 and finishing with a superb 4-fer. Jones and Tregaskes both picked up two wickets as Panteg were restricted to 104 from their 20 overs.

Our reply started disastrously, with the skipper departing for a duck and the score slipping to 30/5. Thankfully Harry Hughes remained at the crease, anchoring the chase with a composed 50. With the game in the balance, Fil Chitnis’ square drive (we’ll call it that…) raced away for four to seal the win 👏

1st XI vs Ynysgerwn
Asked to bowl first on a batter-friendly surface, wickets proved hard to come by. Fil Chitnis picked up 2 wickets and Lewys Jones kept things tight, but the hosts posted a formidable 348.

In reply, Bruno Chitnis produced a maiden 1st XI fifty — a brilliant milestone 👏 Despite several batters making starts, nobody could convert and we fell short, taking valuable bonus points home.

2nd XI vs Penarth II
A top-of-the-table clash at Mathern Road produced fireworks 💥

Making his first appearance with the bat in the 2s, Carwyn James smashed 163 from just 119 balls, including 28 boundaries - Ceeeeeejaaay. Not to be outdone, Lloyd Bartlett brought up his maiden 2nd XI century, blasting 126 from 78 balls as the pair shared a remarkable 174-run partnership.

With the ball, Raahi Kumar somehow followed last week’s 7-fer with “just” 5 wickets this week 😱 Tregaskes added 3 as Penarth were bowled out for 131 in a dominant victory.

3rd XI vs Croesyceiliog
Back at Francis Field, runs were hard to come by. Luca top scored with 30 while Finn Hillman added 21 as we were bowled out for 151.

The bowlers fought hard to defend it, with Harry Harkins striking early and Raj Chitnis claiming 3 wickets. The game remained in the balance deep into the chase, but the visitors got over the line with four overs remaining.

Women’s Softball 🟢⚫️

The ladies were in action twice this week, beginning with a Welsh Plate clash away at Newbridge on Thursday. Despite a battling effort, including 32 from Lindsey and 24 from Molly, the girls fell just 9 runs short in a closely fought contest.

On Sunday, Mathern Road hosted a league round robin tournament. The opening game didn’t go our way, with Malpas coming out on top. Determined to respond, the ladies bounced back in style, securing a thrilling last-ball victory over Ponthir. Molly starred with an excellent 37 runs in a brilliant team performance 👏🙌

A mixed bag of results this week, but some outstanding individual and team performances across the club 👏

We go again next week 💪

A big game at Mathern Road as the unbeaten 2s host second-placed Penarth. James, Hillman and Williams all come into the XI, while Madurasinghe is restored to the top 🙌

3rd XI vs Croesyceiliog
Back at Francis Field, the 3s go with plenty of youth. Ward, Hillman, Rule and Guthrie are all included, while Harry Harkins makes his first appearance of the season 👊

A huge weekend for the club with 59 points from a possible 60 on Saturday 👏👏

1st XI
AJ won the toss and elected to bat at Mathern Road. Bailey (70) and Bishop (35) laid the platform before Harry Hughes added a classy 60 to help us post 273 all out.

With the ball, Leach and Dobbie started tightly, with Dobbie picking up 2 early wickets. Then came Lewys Jones… and as he says, “it’s a Saturday” — boom 💥 3 wickets to blow the game open. Snell and Hall chipped in with two apiece as Swansea were bowled out for 173, securing a dominant win and all 20 points 👊

2nd XI
A long trip to Blaina saw the 2s bat first, with Archer making a patient 46, T adding 39 and Tregaskes striking a quickfire 34 down the order to get us to 210.

Blaina started aggressively in reply, but then came the spinners… led by 14-year-old Raahi Kumar, who ripped through the batting with a sensational 7 wickets 🤯
An outstanding performance from the junior superstar secured a 77-run win and another 20 points on the road 🙌

3rd XI
Another away day for Brent’s army as they travelled to Bridgend. Luca’s 53 got us going before Brent himself made 67, alongside a first ever Chepstow 50 for Ollie Trepte 👏 helping us to 228/6.

Bridgend battled hard in reply, but wickets from Luca, Raj, Hillman and a late burst from Scott Wills on his return from travelling, ensured we held them to 201/8 — a strong win and 19 points secured 💪

Sunday XI
The Sunday side welcomed touring team Woodlawns CC. Tight bowling from Hooper, Hillman, Hebborn, Blandford and Henratty restricted the visitors to 168/7.

The chase started shakily at 5-2 before Dan Tyler and Sunday specialist Bruno Chitnis steadied things, with Bruno retiring on 50. Snell also retired on 50 before Hillman calmly saw us home with 27* in a 4-wicket win 👏

JUNIOR CRICKET 🟢⚫️

A wet start to the week saw all the Under 11s and 13s league games cancelled but there was some action toward the end of the week

The Under 15s travelled to Lisvane in the Welsh Cup on Wednesday and lost comfortably to a very strong unit. Chepstow set a below par target of 89 in their 20 overs and their opponents cruised to victory by 8 wickets

The following evening Monmouth were the visitors and the batters found things a lot easier. 50 for Ewan Guthrie and contributions from Raahi, Jacob and Leo meant a total of 181 was reached

A young Monmouth side struggled against Martha (2 for 5) and Evan (2 for 12)

A third league success for the 15s. On Sunday 24th the Under 13s travelled to Abergavenny for their first round WC tie

The team delivered their best performance of the season winning by 10 wickets

Fielding first, all the bowlers did well. Bowling good lines and lengths, they restricted the opposition to just 87-3 off their 20 overs. A decent fielding effort meant that Ted Jackson took 13 overs to get his 30 runs and the total was always below par with such a fast outfield

George (32*) Sam & Max then took zero risks and Chepstow reached their target in the 14th over

Special mention to Frank & Parag from the 11s for helping out and bowling so well 👏👏👏

What a weekend for the club 🟢⚫️

A big game at Mathern Road for AJ’s men. Bishop and Bailey will look to lead the charge, while Snell returns and Dobbie is a welcome addition back into the side 👊

2nd XI
Still unbeaten in Division 3, the 2s face a tough test away at Blaina. Bartlett returns to the XI, while Tyler Robertson earns his 2nd XI debut after impressing in the 3s 💪

3rd XI
Brent’s army head west to Bridgend. Raj Chitnis returns after his 5-fer two weeks ago, while Phil Richardson is also back following his 💯🔥

Three strong sides out this weekend — let’s bring home 3 W’s lads 🙌

So game week 3 ….

1st XI
The 1s are back on home soil after a much-improved performance at Ynystawe last week, as they welcome Swansea & Civil to Mathern Road 👊

2nd XI
One of the longer away days of the season for the 2s as they make the trip to Blaina — still unbeaten this year 💪

3rd XI
Brent’s boys are also on the road with a trip to Bridgend. Last year’s fixture was a low-scoring thriller… admin 4-fer defending 111 👀

Sunday XI
The Sunday side are back in action for the first time this season, hosting Woodlawns in their opening friendly of the year 🙌

Colts Cricket
Monday’s U11 fixtures and Tuesday’s U13 games unfortunately fell victim to the weather ☔️

The U15s travel to Lisvane on Wednesday before backing it up at Mathern Road against Monmouth on Thursday.
The U13s also have a huge Sunday cup fixture away at Abergavenny 👊

Good luck to everyone representing the club this week 🙌

A massive thank you to this week’s match sponsor Fielding Financial Services 🙌 , your support is very much appreciated. Fielding Financial Services

A frustrating weekend for the seniors as all three fixtures fell victim to the weather — but valuable points still picked up across the board 👊

1st XI
The 1s made the trip west, but rain had the final say after 36 overs. Kellaway top scored with 43, supported by a steady 32 from Ben Sidney-Jones. 9 points taken.

2nd XI
T’s boys hosted Brecon, with the openers setting the tone with tight spells. Bruno the standout with 2/12 as Brecon were reduced to 66/3 before the rain arrived.

3rd XI
The 3s managed a full innings before the weather closed in. Wickets shared between Harkins, Tate and Robertson — not our sharpest day in the field, but more useful points on the board.

We go again next week 💪

Colts Roundup Week 2:

Following last weeks 5 victories, Chepstow juniors followed up with another solid week beginning 11th May
The Under 11s started off on Monday with victory for the ‘A’ team at Newport

Bowling 1st Chepstow kept things fairly tight and they restricted Newport to 85/3 from their 16 overs.
In reply, each pair batted sensibly and built the score against decent Newport bowling scoring 112/4
Parag K hit another 30+ score - another good performance winning by 22 runs.

The ‘B’ team shocked unbeaten Malpas with an exciting 2 run victory at Mathern Road.
Some good batting performances - in particular from Eli B and Nav D with some nice ball striking and good running between the wickets from all. A tight bowling performance under pressure with some good catches. Oli, Felix and Eli B showed good pace. The game became very close as Malpas final pair arrived at the wicket needing 9 from the last over and they hit an early boundary. Eli R held his nerve to hit middle stump and with good outfielding for the remainder of the over they ensured the narrowest of victories

The ‘C’ team played their first match at home to Llanarth B. Their league debut ended in a narrow defeat. Chepstow bowled well and were good in the field. We took 6 wickets. Korey and George with two each.
With the bat George and Henry managed to hit some lovely 4s but we did loose 7 wickets in our innings and we lost by a mere 9 runs.
A really encouraging start, for basically an under 9s team. Well played all

The Under 13s hosted Abergavenny on another chilly evening at Chepstow

Chepstow won the toss and bowled first - Aaryan, Henry E (on debut) and Edward kept things really tight early on

Two very strong opening batsmen (Watkins & Hook) both retired but they were made to work hard for their 30s - Max H took 2-8 in the middle of the innings and a total of 111 off 20 overs was a very good effort

The batters needed to deliver and they did ! George K retired with 30 Sam A chipped in with a good 15 and captain Max H sealed it with 31. Benji continued with his good form (13*) and we won with over 2 overs to spare

In the face of some quick hostile fast bowling, the openers did a great job setting up a second victory of the season

The Under 15s opponent for the week could not raise a team for Thursday !
