Pope & Smith Chelmsford Ltd sports equipment, sports clothing & school uniform specialist Pope and Smith have been carrying on the tradition of service ever since.

In 1931 Dudley Pope, who played cricket for Essex, formed a partnership with Peter Smith who played for both Essex and England. The current owner Colin Wade has worked at Pope and Smith since 1974, took ownership in 2000, and prides himself on the specialist knowledge he and his staff have accumulated on every sport and aspect of school uniform. Moulsham Street has provided the ideal home for Pope and Smith, as they are now surrounded by the other independant shop-keepers of Chelmsford. Indeed, along with James Dace, probably Chelmsford's two oldest names.
